Changes to the driving of other cars extension

I see liberty have followed in Aviva's footsteps in recent changes made to the driving of other cars extension. (The borrowed car must also have a current insurance policy) I'm assuming policies bought prior to the inclusion of these new requirements will still operate off the old guidelines until renewal time?
