Nice to see Dundalk on the UEFA front page this morning.......

That’s impressive. Draw could have been kinder. Going to be tough.

As regards Larnaca last year. The match was played during the day (at 16.:30) in 38 degrees of heat.
The Larnaca team included an extraordinary number of Spanish players, and Larnaca qualified for the group stages.

Qarabag have a sizeable number of Spanish players also, unfortunately.

That seems to be fairly normal now ( though I think larnaka had 8/9 and a Spanish coach)

See the match is at 18:00. Wonder Is that our time or theirs?

Yeah, the money must be fairly good for them to get players playing in that country. Hopefully, it'll be a 9pm kick-off there. The heat will be dire, similar to what the under 19s are playing in in Armenia.

Shame that the home match will be in Oriel rather than Tallaght; 3,500 capacity versus 9,000?

That’s crazy. Especially since Bohs would have been hugely likely to win that one. The 2 goals goal difference probably doesn’t bother them too much.

Probably a good thing we lost so. I was under the impression he was suspended for the Pat's game Sunday. Hopefully this means he's available.

Surely another 3 point deduction is also called for given that they lost the match 1-0. The penalty is only -2 goals as things stand.

Point deduction is a little extreme. At the very least the player should be issued a further ban of 2-3 games and a fine issued to the club.

This is no punishment. What if UCD had won 3-0 anyways?

A fine has been issued and he can't play Sunday. UCD didn't win 3-0 though.

Then you're in the business of issuing different punishments depending on different results. That's messy and less than idyllic to say they least.

As a Waterford fan Bohs probably would have been the Dublin club I disliked the least. They just seemed harmless enough, nice community club doing well on a smaller budget. But Jesus they've made some arses of themselves this week :pac:

And if they did, sure there was no advantage gained anyway.

The fine is a sizable deterrent. I know, we've had to pay it often enough :(

A disaster of a week! A loss to Pats on Sunday would be the icing on the cake. Need to grab the game by the scruff of the neck (and not their keeper's hair) and grind out a home win.

Otherwise there is no sanction. Bohs are a bit like a petty criminal that can't go straight. Just when you think they've turned the corner thet go off and break some other rule.

The fine for us was definitely in 4 figures. Not as massive a hit for Bohs as it would be for us but still nothing to mess around with.

Are you suggesting that they purposely fielded a played knowing he was suspended hoping no one would notice?

So is the match forfeited hence the win of 3-0? if so and as I saw questioned on the Bohs forum, why are both Pender and Kearns suspended for the next match? surely anything that happened in that game is null and void? Mandroiu suspended again for Sunday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 489 ✭✭R00ster

He wasn't in the suspension lists for the previous two weeks:
    4th
    https://www.sseairtricityleague.ie/news/match-officials-for-the-sse-airtricity-league-confirmed-series-2419/id-2782

    11th
    https://www.sseairtricityleague.ie/news/sse-airtricity-league-match-officials-suspension-list/id-2808

But is on the one issued today (18th) saying the suspension was active from the 15th:
    https://www.sseairtricityleague.ie/news/match-officials-suspension-list-series-25--21/id-2833

Presumably Bohs had been issued notification that the suspension was active from the 15th before that list is published? Should have known he was suspended anyway...

Things like Bohs Calling off their Irn Bru cup game minutes before kick off (which I mentioned at the time), fielding a suspended player as well as the few instances of it happening to Wexford make a mockery of the league.
    Embarrassing.
We talk of all these big plans for the league and we can't even get basic sh*t like that right.

I think at the very least violent conduct carries over. Unsure about other cards in the game

Jose rang to congratulate him apparently.

Congrats to Dundalk on getting through but....

Dundalk tap into the pool of players in dublin and are backed by an American company and their expenditure exceeds that of all other clubs domestically.

Hardly the plucky underdogs so far this year.

Pitch was perfectly ok for Irn Bru, opposition refused to play in the end.

It was the ref that called that off, not Bohs. We offered to play East Fife later that day and also the next day at two different locations and they wouldn't. That one was not Bohs fault in the slightest.

League of Ireland clubs shouldn't be anywhere near the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

It's embarrassing that LOI PD clubs field first teams in it while the likes of St Mirren and Ross County throw out U20 sides.

For some unknown reason Waterford and Bohs are marching into it again this year and most likely one or both of them will hit the same problem Bohs had last year.

Can't really give out to Kearns for time wasting now as the whole fúcking match was a waster of time.

Waterford and Bohs are in it because there’s actually some decent enough prize money

    There's not.
Travel expenses are covered and its about €20,000 if you win it outright. Very similar to our own league cup. If Waterford or Bohs advance to the quarter finals they're going to hit the same problem Bohs did last year with the different seasons.

Crowds are paltry whether you play away or at home unless one of them draws Celtic U20s. Which would just be an embarrassment as a few thousand lads with beer bellies and hooped shirts descend on Dalymount or the RSC swinging tricolours for Ireland's club.

So about the same prize money as coming 4th or 5th in the League of Ireland. Can’t really afford to turn our noses up to that.

In Europe they most certainly are underdogs. Additionally, the expenditure came about because of the 2016 European run and the resulting takeover.

Bohs made a slight profit on participation last year.

I mean I’d agree with everyone who says they should be the rules, but they’re not so you can’t enforce them. It would be more unfair to start suddenly enforcing them out of nowhere.

Bohs have got lucky here for sure but imagine they’ll still lose Mandrioiu now for a game where they would have had him on Sunday.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,847 Mod ✭✭✭✭artanevilla

The FAI know what they are doing.

Bohs made a slight profit on participation last year.

Fair play. Genuinely happy for them that they made a few bob.
It's tight margins though and a bad draw wouldn't be long blowing through the travel subsidy + prize money.
They got £10,000 travel expenses to travel to Peterhead to play infront of 700 people. The Scottish clubs aren't happy with that kind of money leaving their game to subsidise games like that. So I expect the axe to fall on it soon.

Bohs would have gotten €9,000 in prize money for "losing" the QF. Split gates for the Peterhead and Sutton games which would be negligible.
Travel expenses eaten up obviously travelling.

    Dundalk signings this year

    Aaron McCarey, Warrenpoint- Free
Sean Murray - Vejle Denmark - Free
Cameron Dummigan - Oldham - Free
Jordan Flores - Wigan - Free
Dylan Hand - Chesterfield - Free
    Lido Lofeta - Bohs or St Kevin’s - ?
Andy Boyle - Preston - Free

All the above are full professional , so wages would be substantial

A few were released as well Sava, Chevdukas, Murray, Poynton, Byrne,Finnegan, O’Keefe, Smith, and Calvacante. And the on loan players Adorjan and Tagbajumi

I could be wrong but that’s my understanding
