Slayer were awesome, missed Obituary due to two friends procrastinating in leaving the hotel to get there when the doors opened, arrived when Anthrax were coming on.

Got to the front far left barrier and camped out there from Lamb Of God onwards.

During Slayer I got talking to this very pretty lady from New Zealand who was behind me, she was shouting "Tommy!" referring to Tom Araya, dragged her up to the barrier so she could get a better look, she went off during the show and got a pint, would have got her one myself but it would have ended up on the floor during the journey back with the action in the crowd, she got back and her pint was immaculate, none spilled, I was well impressed, she was even awesome enough to share it with me, she insisted. Talking away to her, said for the craic she was pretty, she let me down gently. Still she was lovely. If she's reading, thanks for sharing your pint with me, legend :P

Was there that much trouble at it? Had a few roudy passengers get on the Luas at Abbey St drinking but didn't see any issues inside.

It actually kicked off a bit in - of all places - the disabled area between Blocks J and B during Slayer. Can't be 100% on everything but seemed like one guy in that area was deliberately throwing his (long) hair over the barrier into the face of a guy at the back of Block B. After a couple of chances, security went to escort him + buddies elsewhere but one of them hit yer man in front a belt with a crutch. Cue the guy hopping over the seats and going for crutch man (bear in mind there was about 5 or 6 staff in the middle of all this). At this stage a dwarf (apologies if that's the incorrect term, but he was less than 3 ft tall) gets involved too and starts throwing shapes at the guy - all a bit surreal!

Outside at the Luas there was some aggro between a couple of heads and the Gardai alright - cuffed after assaulting the cops last I saw.

Was seated (front row so good view of the crowd).. security went in and pulled a few people out through out the gig... I saw maybe 4-5. I assume they have spotters up in the seats as it looked like they were being directed over radio on who to pull out.

Did anyone find the sound fairly Muddy throughout? I was centre/right of the stage maybe half way back. To me the sound was shocking for Anthrax, poor for Lamb of God and still poor enough for Slayer, slightly muffled sounding. Others thought it was OK so I'm genuinely wondering is it just my hearing at this stage after many many extremely loud metal gigs!

I was standing in the same area and had the same experience. Been to plenty of gigs in there and it was the worst sound for me personally.

Yup, sound not great. Muffled and vocals for Slayer were too low IMO.

Also agreed, balcony section A (left) and sound for anthrax and LoG was muddy.
Not brilliant for slayer either but the intensity was so good I didn't get too bothered.
I hear that from an awful lot of gigs there. Slash was the same, a friend was at Megadeth and didn't recognise hangar18 except by the drumbeat. Another gig I heard of sound was cutting out for the support.
Very annoying when they're doing this almost every day of the week

I don't work in the industry so may be missing something, but having messed around with DJ equipment as a hobby and worked on a mixing desk in college it's not hard to understand sound levels and different channels.

What's so difficult about turning up the vocals or turning down the instruments?

The fact that you go to another gig in there on a different day and the sound is grand just proves the point.

id imagine bands like that employ some of the best in the business for sound, id say getting it right is far from easy in a big open space, with materials made from reflective metals all over the shop. i do think though, some sort of house pa is needed up in the seating areas to try compensate for these loses, but that probably causes issues as well
