Muse world tour announced again no Irish show

No surprise they played outdoors in Belfast last summer with Biffy Clyro as support dunno if it even sold out.

They've literally played here every album cycle far from an act that's been avoiding us. Expect them back when they take Simulation Theory indoors.

Not surprised just disappointed to be honest if the show in Belfast last year was in Dublin I would have gone ,Belfast is too far of a trek I did it 6years ago for foo fighters and stone roses and then hit Dublin for kasabian on a 3 day stretch but the drive to Belfast killed me

definite front-runner for All Together Now headliner I'd say.

That would kill me as I’m not going to it

Would have been a bigger crowd had it been in Dublin. Been a long time since they've done an outdoor gig down south here, which is more surprising. One of the few acts where a large outdoor show is almost better than an indoor one

Elton John is the latest 2020 culprit in his egregiously long 'farewell tour' which is already in Ireland in mid 2019.

It's genius, just tour your farewell tour till you die, can't complain cause it will be his last tour.

Yeah this 'farewell tour' nonsense is the new marketing ploy and by god it works I'd say

A lot of bands are on there's for the last while ie Aerosmith, Ozzy, Slayer, Kiss etc and they can last 'years'

Very surprising if they don't play an outdoor gig here - plenty of suitable venues - I reckon they'd shift a lot of tickets doing an Aviva gig in Dublin and one in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork.

Might have a look next week at tickets abroad for one of their shows (once there not ridiculous prices).

Surprised they haven't an Irish date though they would of been ideal for a Marley park show

No disputing that Northern Irish are more likely to make the trip to Dublin than people from the republic going the other way.

Ozzy solo had his farewell tour in 1992 called No More Tours hence this tour being titled No More Tours part 2, tongue firmly in cheek.

Kiss and Scorpions must be the biggest culprits when it comes to the farewell tour.

Ah just being a bit tongue in cheek! Actually went last year and to be fair it was great craic. Not too many artists (Irish ones in particular) can sell out a venue like the Marquee pretty much every year for past few years so fair play! :)

Best comment I heard about Christy and the marquee was where does he go to live when they take it down each year.

So that's 1 of the predictable gigs announced then

Whoever books the Marquee acts should be sacked. Aiken sort yourselves out ffs!!

Yes, how dare they book an act that sells out virtually every year.

    BURN THEM!!!!

As you probably know the marquee is the only opportunity for a potential major international act to play somewhere like cork. Why not try and offer up a slot to one of these bands rather than give it to someone who plays far smaller venues in cork on a regular basis?

    It's a lazy booking...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,914 ✭✭✭Rigor Mortis

It's a succesful booking. Aiken aren't a semi state. Their function is to make money.

It's like saying the Corona's are a lazy booking. They sell out.

If you are running a multi - gig event, you layer it with mainly guaranteed sell out shows and a small number of riskier 'credible acts.' That's how you get enough of a guaranteed return to stay in business.

The gig going public is so fickle and has so much choice these days you would be mad to do otherwise.

  • Registered Users Posts: 382 ✭✭SoundOfSilence

Luckily not every promoter has that blinkered view and some attempt to offer the public a bit of variety in terms of acts they book.

There's no shortage of slots. They'll have gigs as long as there's suitable acts. Christy sells out each year, what's the problem

The sell out shows underwrite the riskier shows. All of these promoters are businesses. Aiken, MCD and POD wouldnt have survived for decades without understanding that. Its not a blinkered view. Capacity of 4,000 in a market in a second city. You can only take so many risks with that. If they take risks with all 20 nights, then there wont be a festival the next year.
