So, Currently looking for a oak veneer worktop.
Seen this a lot on google.

Would it not be rubbish with water draining from Glasses, baby bottles and the sorts?
My fear is the water would get into the grain or even the core?

IIRC, that is not veneer, is laminated solid lengths

Veneer or laminated I can't see that finish lasting.
I'm open to be proved wrong because it does look nice.

    Going with solid wood,
But not doing drain board in the wood.
Doing traditional drainer in the sink.

The worktop in the picture looks like solid Beech, hard to know if it's wide board or finger jointed strip wood. As regards the finish there is always maintainance with a wooden worktop and if damaged they can be sanded and brought back like new, picture of some mysterious after party burn marks I recently removed from a worktop.
