as stated above we will be missing a few fowards for the next few months which is a pity because it would of being good to get a look at adrian mullen at this level and billy ryan or darren mullen.Michael cody has also being impressive.
a previous poster is on bout a few unknown fowards or player out of the blue (which im in favour of) but it has being mostly defenders that was brought in.Niall brassil is in.mullens wont be seen till after the club.Conor martin and pat lyng, ger malone are still there.Aidan nolan, tom kenny and robbie fitz are defenders, wallace, cody, tom aylward are defenders so from im told its mostly last years panel with a few additions and hopefully with another years training into the likes of scanlon, sheehan etc they will be stronger.
i was also told paul curran from tipp is the new o loughlins manager anyone confirm this?

Is Conor Martin still there? No disrespect to the lad but he has got more chances than anyone and is not up to championship standard.

Bolger is what we need I think a decent scoring forward, Connor Martin is poor. It's sometimes frustrating that players are picked on certain merits rather than there game attributes surely the best available county players should be picked and Martin isnt one of them

John Walsh and Bolger are stand out players in the senior club scene. I have not heard of Emeralds doing anything in the last few years including Conor Martin.

Alan Murphy is another lad who has got plenty of chances and hasnt really taken them yet, but i would stick by him as he has a decent club campaign and might develop further.

Same with Luke Scanlon had a poor year last year(although curtailed by injuries)

So what forwards are Kilkenny potentially looking at for the next month ?

Wally, Hogan, Leahy, Sheehan, Martin, Murphy, Aylward, Donnelly, Scanlon, keoghan, Blanchfield, Malone and Lyng any others ?

If Ballyhale get to the Club All Ireland then the Ballyhale lads wont be back in until around the 20th April as the club scene takes place in the first few weeks of April, leaving only 2/3 weeks before the first match against Dublin.

Id say Brian Cody will have the Ballygunner jersey on in the semi final

Bolger could have made a nane for himself in wexford in 2017 championship.should of had 2 goals that night .seems yo be excluded after that whike martin had been given many chances.walsh had bad injuries and needed to strenghten up.but again more talented than martin or sheehan IMO..leahy as a midfielder for 2019 for me.like to see him step forward and really show his talents.

    definitely still involved.

id definitly give alan murphy a chance but theres definitly a few in ahead of walsh and bolger that arent better hurlers but theres a few hurlers around the county that are plenty good enough but the first thing he looks for is workrate etc and these few lads probably dont tick the boxes which is a shame.Bolger and walsh are score getters and something we lacked but maybe havent the required workrate but surely that could be worked on.Anyway everyone is never going to be happy with the panel im sure management are happy with what they have.they've had these 2 lads last year.

Great to be in a position that we can dispose of such natural talent

Not having a go at either Walsh and Bolger as I believed and probably still believe they can make it but from the limited knowledge I have of those involved in our intercounty teams, it would seem consistency is their biggest issue. Both these players are capable of running up big scores and doing some outrageous stuff but the thing is when they're hot their unmarkable but when they're not they don't contribute to the team to anywhere close to the required level. So you could play them every day and 1 out of 3 or 5 games they'll go to town for you and the other 2 or 4 days you get very little from them. At intercounty there can't be any passengers. They need to up their game when they don't have the ball, if they do this, I think they could both be amazing players but they haven't shown it yet from what I've heard.

Clearly some posters need reminding, so I'm pleased you did the needful. We heard all this when they were released from the panel. Some posters have very short memories or else they chose to play ignorant.

That's a good point but take last year none of our forwards were any good from play so I'd take a chance. You need a mixture of work rate and skill not all the same. What we lacked last year was scores and bolger was on fire this year

Not knowing what goes on inside the panel I can only judge on qhat I see at club and when players play county.on that basis I would have walsh and bolger over sheehan martin and sxanlon.

Agree 100% John Walsh should be brought in and given time to mature and develop his game mentally, the lad was only 21 when dropped last year. What use is Conor Martin in there? Derek Lyng probably looking after his own club player. Some of the things on the panel and team over the past year baffle me.

You should make a complaint to the officers of the Co Board if you feel that is going on . As regards John Walsh the man was in with the senior team for a good period of time but I think it was his own attitude he didn't progress further.

I recall last year you said three weeks should be enough to prepare for the Dublin match when you gave out about the club matches last spring.

Yes if you have the panel from November to April before hand, 3 weeks is plenty.
Ballyhale lads won’t see any action until the Dublin match due to club commitments

    Ballygunner could solve that problem.

Leahy must be stuck for cash if he's taking over a Junior C team. Strange move

The Freshford players had nothing to do with the removal of the management team, it was actually a member of last years management team was the main instigator in that like he was when a player had a family funeral he made a remark about that. As regards M Carey the best of luck to himself and the Mullens if they make it they wont encourgement not been put down, as regards Ger Aylward people will talk and the irish are very good at putting down there own.

Agreed lads like Michael Carey and Mullens need to be given proper chances in meaningful games before being fully judged.

As regards Aylward there has been alot of bullsh!t and lies written about him here in relation to supposedly disciplinary issues with him and if going by all the messages on this forum............at this stage he must has been dropped about ten times off the panel by Cody!! I have defended him numerous time here as think all that carry on and talk is completely unfair to any lad who makes the commitment to inter county hurling. Yes he did break his finger in training on New Years day but hopefully wont set him back too long. He has been seriously unfortunate the last 2 and half injuries getting serious injuries at crucial times of the season but if he can stay injury free and get a sustained amount of gametime to get the touch up to speed then I think he can be serious addition to panel. He at an age now where he can hopefully start coming into his prime but needs that invaluable game time and perhaps a stint away with the club might the best way for him to get that form back but I still believe he has something to offer to KK team

Good overview of things from Kilkenny People, knee injuries are worrying especially Buckley's, at least it gives others an opportunity in the full & centre back positions.

Kilkenny will swing into the new season without the services of former All-Star, Padraig Walsh.
The stout-hearted Tullaroan defender is currently nursing a knee injury and he could struggle to make the start of the defence of the Allianz National Hurling League.
Walsh, who will celebrate his 27th birthday in March, has been troubled by the knee for some time and there were fears at one stage that the injury might require surgery.
However, he visited a specialist in recent weeks and after treatment that included a number of injections he is back running.
The former All-Star is mad keen to get back into action.
Former captain, Cillian Buckley, continues to be troubled by the knee injury that restricted him to just one outing with his club, Dicksboro, last season.
He played no part in the November Wild Geese exhibition match against Galway in Sydney, and he may miss the early action too.
The Cats open the 2019 season in what will be a low key Walsh Cup semi-final against Wexford in Bellefield, Enniscorthy on Sunday (2pm).Final next weekend
The winners play either Galway or Dublin in the final the following weekend, with the start of the League against Cork at Nowlan Park a mere seven days later.
With a good number of squad members unavailable because of club commitments, Kilkenny manager Brian Cody will introduce new faces.
The likelihood is that the likes of Huw Lawlor, Conor Browne, Robbie Lennon, Jason Cleere and so on will be given their head.
Last year injury and illness curtailed the involvement of Richie Hogan, Ger Aylward and Conor Fogarty, but all should be ready to go from the off this time.
The selectors are working off a big squad, including under-20 panelists Michael Carey, Evan Shefflin, Adrian Mullen and Niall Brassil, but players from Kilkenny and Leinster championship winners, Ballyhale Shamrocks, Graigue-Ballycallan and Dunnamaggin won’t be expected to return until after they finish in the All-Ireland series.
That brigade includes T.J. and Richie Reid, Joey Holden, Colin Fennelly, Evan Shefflin, Adrian Mullen, Billy Ryan, Michael Cody and others.
The possible shape of things to come from Kilkenny may not be known until well into the season.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny under-20 team manager, D.J. Carey has completed the backroom team that will serve with him this season.
The selectors are Liam Smith (James Stephens), Peter O’Donovan (Erin’s Own) and Nigel Skehan (O’Loughlin’s). They will be joined by Michael Comerford, O’Loughlin’s (strength and conditioning), Dick O’Neill, Bennettsbridge (kit man) and Maurice Walsh, Bennettsbridge (video analysis).
The selectors have already held a number of trials. They will continue the work with a challenge against the Carlow under-20 squad - trained by St Martin’s clubman Patrick O’Flynn - this evening (Wednesday) and another against UCD on Sunday.
The finalised minor hurling selection committee is - Richie Mulrooney, Dicksboro (manager) with selectors Adrian Finan (James Stephens), Sean Kelly (St Martin’s) and Martin Carey (Young Irelands). Brián Ryan (Fenians) will be the hurling, skills coach while Mr Kelly will look after strength and conditioning.
Meanwhile, county champions Thomastown have nominated sisters Anna and Meighan Farrell as joint captains of the Kilkenny senior camogie team for the 2019 season.

probably need experience of paul murphy and fogarty but the fowards also look like they'll need guidance, blanchfield has experience but getting scores could be difficult.
the injuries to the lads isnt ideal but it should give delaney and lawlor experience which will be great. It said on the paper both aylward and hogan should be available although id prefer to see richie trying to get right for the summer.it will be intresting to see the fowards as he brought in more defenders, wally and kelly will probably lead the attack.

No south representative in senior u20 or minor management. Mooncoin had a lovely team that beat us in the minor semi final and most of them are under age this year. I do think a south representative has be involved with the minors

Surely north south east or west shouldnt matter when it comes to selectors

Would it not make it easier for any selection/management team to have eyes on games in all parts of the county? Easier for someone in the south to go to Piltown , Carrigeen,Mooncoin, Glenmore than to get someone to travel down from the north of the county. ( I know its not a massive distance, but still..) and someone based down hear would hear and see things behind the scenes, off the field than some one based in Kilkenny city or Gowran ....

That is obvious, and should be the basis of any management team.
But still, eyes and ears on the grounds watching club games locally , if the right man is there that could do a selectors job in the south, why not use him?
Then again, maybe Cody, Carey and Mulrooney don't think there is anyone good enough to be a selector in the southern tip ?
