LOL look at PVAs past seasons stats. As many goals as clean sheets most years. Fk it I will stick with him. If Wan Bisaka eends up nailing down a starting berth all the better I will take the price rises which will set off PVAs inevitable price drops!

Mark Hughes has said Cedric is currently suffering a "stomach bug" and has been told to stay where he is and should return early next week. #saintsfc

BB GW1 I think is still a risk as we can't be sure on lineups and we have a lot of unknowns in general.

The idea of using before DGW I understand, but I'm thinking soon after an early-ish WC might be the best time.

I usually end up WCing around GW7 or so. I don't have any set plan and I'll hang on as long as I reasonably can, but usually around this time you have a lot more known quantities in terms of things like:

    - Who are the must-have premium attackers?
    - Which smaller teams are showing they can keep clean sheets?
    - Who is / isn't a rotation risk?
    - Is team X predominantly an attacking team or a defensive team?

I then fully intend to go with 15 regulars for my WC. Happy to have a non-playing GK starting off, but I do think a well-rounded squad for WC can save a lot of headaches.

Then hopefully there's a week soon after where my bench have reasonable fixtures (or I have a genuine selection dilemma) and everyone is fit.

BB GW1 just seems an unnecessary risk and big commitment. You're committing to an early-WC, and while I'm a fan of an early WC in general, I do think it's worth giving your team the chance not to use it until later on (i.e. back your starting team to potentially still be strong 5 GWs in after a few FTs).

WC is gold dust so throwing it away after one GW is a poor strategy imo, just to try to make something decent out of BB.

I agree a WC is gold dust but the masses generally play it around a dgw and then totally compromise it by focusing on BB.
This year I think it makes a lot of sense to plan an early WC due to the returning players from the world cup.
The advantages of an early BB are due to doubts over Kane, lukaku, aguero all starting the season, aubemyang (poor fixtures). Its fairly easy to build a well balanced strong BB team due to the fact we can probably get away without starting with a premium forward. Its the only time you can wildcard in a BB team gw 1 knowing that you have a wildcard to readjust your team to a more normal structure.
Obviously you need to be clever with your picks and go with near certainties to start and I wouldn't be advocating playing the wildcard till atleast after gw 3.

Dyche doesn't do rotation especially with his back four . Mee has refused to sign a new contract it wouldn't surprise me if he is sold.

I currently have gudmonson and Cairney as my 4th and 5th mids and Charlie Austin as my 3rd striker
I’m giving serious consideration to downgrading gudmonson to another 5ml mid (ralls or Neves) and rotating the pair of them
Can then upgrade Austin if I want to Josh King to another sicknote in Chris Wood
It would also leave me with 5ml to sort my 5ml defender issue by buying a 5.5ml defender !!!!
I would then have my most expensive defence ever with a 6ml two 5.5 , 4.5 and 4.0
I could also of course go with 6 ml 5.5 5.0 & two 4.5 leaving me with a full 15 starters .............If wan bissaka starts last friendly that will help make mey mind up but also leave me with double palace defecnce more than likely !

Going against all my own advice and I’m splashing the cash in defence.

I’ve got Mendy and Robertson locked in and I won’t be changing but the final spot is between PVA and Bellerin.

Initially had PVA but currently have Bellerin. This is a real coin toss and I’ve no idea which way it’ll go.

PVA over Bellerin. Imo. Bellerin is dire. I had him in a draft last season for the year and just no..

    Harsh on Bellerin.

I went in to last season raving about him and remember having him as first defender on teamsheet.

He didn’t do as well as I expected but was still the 8th highest scoring defender and looks like he missed about 3-4 games and was playing in an arsenal team managed by Wenger.

I think he has a higher ceiling than PVA, this season, but PVA is more fun to own.

If Pep is going to play 3-5-2 this season then I don’t think it automatically mean Aguero and Jesus up top.

More likely to still be just one of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,685 ✭✭✭sheroman01

Totally didn't notice Southampton signing Gunn for 13.5m. Does he start right away for them? Would be harsh on McCarthy. With the Cedric news, it'd be nice to have a Soton keeper at 4.5m. Anyone know the story over their number one?

Courtois potentially leaving is the only think putting me off Luiz - will chelsea be as tight at the back?

No idea but Willy at 5m would nice.

It's not the competitiveness as much as the short turnaround between games (Thurs evening to Sun afternoon)

Any word on David Silva lads or have I missed something? Not in a lot of teams (Pep I know) but still, 8.5 and was solid returns last season

He's in my team now. Pep loves him and his PPG was excellent last season. Safer starter than Sané going forward imo, though Sané could score strongly in the opening games

I've made a few tweaks and now should have 15 starters
I'm having difficulty picking starting 11
    Maybe .........BB.........maybe
    Few attackers playing defenders though

I’ve had Silva since draft one and he’s been a constant pick. It seems a lottery at city especially at the start so who knows!

Need more info next week but he’s in for now for me

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,685 ✭✭✭sheroman01

Is Sane a risky move now? Who are the top 3 safest city mids do we think, at least for the first 6 games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 855 ✭✭✭mectavba

Last year, if I remember correctly, Aguero and Jesus started most games together before Mendy got injured. It was only after that, he changed the formation and started rotating them.

I think with the likes of Sane, you just have to accept that he will start maybe 80% of the time. I think it is essential to have one of these mids even if you end up with a few 0 or 1 point weeks. It is a bit of a lottery. I'll be going with Sane from week 1 on the basis that he didnt play the WC and I expect him to come flying out of the blocks.

The exception is KDB who should be nailed on once he is back to fitness. I think Bilva will share more minutes with Dilva this year.

Rondon has agreed terms with #nufc and is ready to sign. Loan swap is in place subject to Gayle agreeing terms. Meaning Gayle could return in future. Loan fees will also be involved if deal rubber stamped. More to follow. #wba

Probably good to start gw2. An option for some might be an Alexis punt gw1 then transfer him to KDB gw2

Lacazette assist for Aubameyangs goal in a 2-0 victory tonight.

If Emery starts with Laza up top of a 433 with Auba on the left, I really think he’ll be fantastic value at 9.5

The two of them really click together and have 11 pre season goals, no WC and may well start we’ll albeit with 2 difficult fixtures in the beginning.

Anyone care to talk me out of it? With Laca in, forces me to leave Firmino out and would bring in a Mane/Salah dbl up

Anyone care to talk me out of this Lacazette madness?

Apologies for the long winded message below but hopefully will see the method to the madness.

Had a look back through a number of results from last season as well as pre season and they're quite strong. Yes it's pre season but they can be v promising (apart from the likes of Nathan Redmond in previous years)

When Auba signed in Jan, Lacazette had an injury so they were unable to play together for a while, added to Aubameyang being cup tied in Europe. Note the games below only include when the 2 are on the pitch together (and open to it being mistaken)

First time they played together was a 1-0 loss to Spurs, Auba starting Lacazette subbed on after 65 so not counting this.

Next time was 01/04: a 3-0 win vs Stoke. Auba started. Laca came on after 61’. Auba got 2 goals, Lacazette got 1.
15/04 vs Newcastle: both start. Laca assisted by Auba
22/04 vs West Ham. Laca starts. 1-1 then Auba comes on. Win 4-1. Laza (2) assisted once by Auba
06/05 vs Burnley 5-0. Both start. Auba (2) 1 assist by Laca. Aubameyang 1 assist too. Lacazette (1)
13/05. Both start. 1-0 win (Auba)

    Pre season.
8-0 win vs Boreham Wood. Auba (3) Laca assisted once by Auba. Laca (1)
    1-1 draw vs Atletico blank
5-1 vs PSG Laca (2) Auba 1 assist for Ozil
1-1 vs Chelsea. Laca goal came on for Auba. Blank
2-0 vs Lazio. Laca starts. Assists for Auba who comes on to score

It's a toss up between the pair but with Lacazette 1.5 cheaper, I'm set to rock with him as it stands. When they both play, they both flourish it appears with Emery favouring Aubameyang on the left, Lacazette upfront. EDIT: I'm counting they;ve scored 8 goals this pre season rather than 11 as previously stated (this 11 figure was on FFS)

Interesting. They do seem fairly evenly matched. I agree in that it's the price that is the clincher for Lacazette. The only concern I have is those 1st 2 games could see slim returns. But after that their run of games is fairly damn good. Can see lots of goals for them there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,256 ✭✭✭✭km79

    From FFS
But there is even more to pay attention to in the wide areas for today’s match. FPL defender Victor Moses (£6.0m) has now been used as a second-half substitute on the right of the forward line twice in pre-season, creating serious potential for him to be a powerful out-of-position option

    Interesting

The fact that Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) was in the training squad for the pre-season tour has proved not quite as encouraging as first thought, because the Frenchman was not involved in any matches in the USA

    Fk didn't realise that :(
