I’m going to have to roll with a sub £7.0m striking option and I’m really caught in two (or five!) minds about who to go with.

My current thinking, in no particular order:

    1) Austin - only a couple of elite options including Harry Kane had better minutes per chance stats than Austin when he played last season. If he plays, will be on penalties. Concerns are obviously injury and withdrawals around the 75th minute. Is £0.5m cheaper than others below.

    2) King - has racked up a huge amount of minutes in pre-season for Bournemouth. Has scored a hat trick in one of the games. Looks set to finally get a run of games in his favored striking position. Will have penalties.

    3) Mitrovic - excellent under the current Fulham set up in the Championship. Has however done nothing but get sent off in the Premier League this far, but will play every week in what should be a pretty attacking Fulham side. Main concern is potential red card(s).

If Ings got a move to Palace as reported that would change things, but realistically I’m looking at a wildcard in gameweek 4 or so before he’s up to speed and a real option anyway.

Any thoughts on this £6.5m or less striking position?
    King is in for me
It's now one of Austin or Arnie
Arnie is one of only 2 players who have not left my squad since I started a few weeks ago

Aaaaannnnndddd I'm back to gw1 BB
I do not intend on rotating keepers after first WC which means I won't have a full bench
So getting rid of BB early will also free !e of the temptation to rotate

Of course Chelsea getting a new keeper could change this

I had almost settled on a team with 2 4ml defenders( DDG in goals taking the cash ) but I just can't do it .

And sure if I’m going to BB gw 1 I may as well give myself the best possible chance of points for the week so Austin would be a better shout than Arnie who plays one of my defenders .......

How is Hart not listed in the game? Crazy. "Should" be 4.5, but think we'll see him at 5m.

Was my first thought too. Time could be against him though with window closing on Thursday.

Nah man you'll drive yourself nuts waiting for that headed goal every week. Robertson much more likely for assist points

TAA will play more but expect Clyne to get rotated in a good bit.

The VVD vs Robertson debate is not as clear cut as conventional wisdom seems to have it imo (conventional wisdom being that it's an easy pick for Robertson).

If Liverpool win 1 or 2 nil, then VVD is very likely to get 2 or 3 BPS due to cleany and amount of passes he'll make.

And, while both are nailed initially, VVD is more nailed. I can't really ever see him being rested barring an injury worry. Robertson's role is far more intense in terms of number of sprints / distance covered etc... Robbo is very fit of course, but there may be some occasions where he is rested for Moreno. It's a demanding role for any attacking team, and maybe even moreso under Klopp.

If you're planning an early WC then that last point is probably moot to be fair however.

It's the old debate of CB vs FB. The conventional wisdom always says to go for the full-back who gets forward a lot, but I have to say I often lean towards the CB choice for the reasons outlined above, as well as the goalscoring / aerial threat.

Otamendi would be an example - he ended up outscoring Kyle Walker last season. Jones ate up BPS for United too.

I'd argue the BPS that CBs for top teams tend to get in 1-0 or 2-0 wins are a more reliable stream of points than the assists a full back might get (of course depends on the full back).

So while I'm not arguing that VVD is a better choice to Robbo, I certainly don't think it's super clear who's a better choice, there's strong arguments for both.

Lovren at 5.0 is the value pick when he's back.

Lucas Perez close to signing for West Ham per the BBC.

I have a feeling people are going to get stung by both Arnautovic and Zaha.

If Zaha leaves, he’s probably not going to play every week for one of the big boys and in any case will be out wide. If Ings signs for Palace, he’s probably going to get moved back out wide too.

Perez looks to be joining the West Ham ranks, there’s Hernandez there too.

I really don’t think FPL should have re-classified them as strikers to be honest.

    I've King in currently.

King is a really good option imo, and I think he might well be better than some at 7.0

Just a solid option imo, lovely opening fixtures, takes pens, is a proven FF asset, good pre-season, playing in an attacking team.

I think the other options are puntier

Anybody leaning towards Costa off wolves? 5.0M on set pieces and corners according to a post I read here awhile ago. Don't see much else about him on boards tho.

Looks a superb option if he can nail down a spot, but it looks from his appearances last season that he's a rotation risk, and maybe as an attack-minded midfielder this risk is even more pronounced now that they're in the PL against superior opposition.

Then it looks like they're signing Adama Traore, so huge question marks on his nailed-on-ness.

One to monitor I'd say, but I think he's likely going to be a frustrating thorn in your side who will lose value and you'll be looking to replace if you start off with him

    Thanks Morza.

Adama Traore is going to be the most frustrating FPL player off all time for those that don't know him. I've seen him a few times and he'll sprint down the wing extremely fast, beat a player or two and then his end product will be absolutely toxic.

I'll just go back Neves so as he seems more nailed on than Costa.

I went VVD last January over Robertson based on goal threat (he didn't score )
Rotation (he wasn't rotated but Robertson wasn't either too often )
    And the big one
    Bonus points

I like you assumed he would hoover them up when they kept clean sheets
    He didn't
He gave the ball away a lot as he takes frees at the back and likes to hit a long diagonal pass too

So I don't know why he is back in !y thoughts tbh
I guess I'm still waiting for that goal
VVD/Robertson cost me a lovely league prize last year too

Only drawback of King is how poorly Bournemouth start seasons.

It's turned me off him completely.

My bad, it's the Asian 'Games' he's playing in. But yes, he will be missing games early season. Details here:

Good perspective, particularly the bolded part.

I kind of have this feeling that VVD will show a bit more, but as I said the bolded part is important to consider - might look at some of the stats.

It's the repetitive, risk-free, easy 3 yard passes that really gets your CB over the line for BPS - Joe Gomez was a dream for them last year even playing as a tucked-in RB.

If VVD is spraying long passes often then you're right, it negates a huge part of his positives i mentioned in my post

Sort of a Newcastle fan here. They've also had a poor pre-season and the players are currently refusing media engagements in a dispute over bonuses. I'd be steering well clear for a while.

And even then, I'd be wary of the sort of service Rondon will get. Much better options out there like Austin or Mitrovic.
