FSG are rebuilding Anfield they are building a new state of the art training facility and have brought in a World Class manager and have fully backed him in the transfer market.

Hopefully this puts an end to the owners being cheapskates!

Of course we do have to sell Salah next week to balance the books ;)

I'd rather spend 60 m on a keeper then fekir

I think the clubs revenue is almost separate from the TV money and CL money. We can spend big on a player without it effecting the club one little bit.

    Fúcking great move.

    Get Firmino in his ear..
    Get Salah talking to him.

    Just get it done.

Well no - it's all a balance of income and expense. But the purchase of a player can be amortised over the length of the contract, whereas CL money/merchandise/gate is immediate. So you are always ahead on the spend...

Yea but hes better than the 3 lumps of ****e we already have.

If Klopp rates him so highly then its good enough for me.

I'm no accountant but would i be correct in saying that we could potentially could have Fabinho Keita and Allison for the coutinho money?
Still  have to sell sturridge, origi, moreno, Mignolet, ings, lallana (Jan window) , gini migth go to.
I think we will get Fekir too

Glad we are going for the player we want but I think he's looked ropey every time iv seen him,
But if he's the player Jurgen wants then I'm happy,
The pressure on the guys is going to be huge, I hope he's up to it,
I wonder will we get anyone else  ?

He is the most reliable keeper in Italy, trusted as Brazil’s number 1 aswell

I'd guess like myself that you've only seen him in the CL semis against us and the WC.

Not enough to judge him on, I'd let Klopp and Co's judgement rule the day.

Also top players don't worry about transfer fees, look at VVD.

Kirkby combined training facility gets the green light

    https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/announcements/307364-liverpool-training-ground-update-kirkby
Liverpool FC is delighted to confirm that it will proceed with the redevelopment of its Academy site in Kirkby and the neighbouring Eddie McArdle community playing fields.

The scheme will see the Reds’ first team and Academy football training operations and facilities come together on one site in a new training campus.

The project will provide the club with world-class training facilities, including an elite performance centre for the first team and state-of-the-art training centre for its development squad teams.

The new 9,200sqm training centre on LFC’s Academy site creates a combined first team and U23 Academy facility, each of which has their own identity, along with new first-team pitches and parking within the site. The facilities will incorporate two gyms, a full-size sports hall, pool, hydrotherapy complex and specialist sports rehabilitation suites. There will also be dedicated TV studios, press conference facilities and office accommodation.

I don't want much Italian Footie anymore, and haven't really done since the mid noughties so I can't comment on Allison's week in, week out performances.
That said over the 2 games against us last season and Brazil's world cup, he struck me as average. But it hasn't been a great world cup for keepers in fairness ;)

That said, the stats seem to indicate he strongly fits our set up.
Our in-house options are a busted flush, whatever about giving Ward an opportunity Migs and Karius are I feel beyond return at Anfield,
I was told recently (over on Reddit) that we were too hard on Karius as he made mainly "forced" errors! As opposed to the "unforced" errors made by our defence and poor Karius' gets slaughtered while the back 4 get a pass on their mistakes!

My own stance is that Karius is an average shot stopper, but has weak hands and very poor positional awareness. This is compounded by the defence lacking confidence in his ability and leads to a cycle of poor decision making, poor communication and panic defending on occasion.

Ideally any Keeper we buy should have the ability to control/dominate his area, give our back line confidence and fit the distribution model Klopp is after.

It feels really great to be in a position where it looks as if the club can and will spend money, and spend it only on the Gaffer's 1st choice rather than our old model of aiming for the moon and shopping in the bargain bin or worse yet, splashing big money on players to fill the "Marquee" expectation rather than buying what was needed.

If it comes off, I really do feel a challenge is in the offing.

If so many journalists know about the bid then surely it must be close. Would it be leaked otherwise?

Lets hope we don't film the interview take lots of press pic's and leak to all the ITK journo's that it's a done deal before the medical.

The below is from the Echo earlier on today which the stats fans might like. It certainly doesn't portray our current goalkeepers in a good light.

Liverpool faced less chances per goal than any of the Premier League's top six teams

There’s been some research done about how many goals teams in the Premier League conceded per chance faced - and it’s not ideal reading for the Reds.

Liverpool faced less chances per goal conceded than any of the other top six teams.

The statistics were compiled by BetStars who concluded that Jurgen Klopp needs to bring a goalkeeper to Anfield, which is probably unsurprising.

The data revealed that only two clubs repelled fewer chances for each goal conceded than Liverpool in the Premier League last season and the betting company said “it doesn’t seem likely to be a problem that keeping the faith in first-choice goalkeeper Loris Karius will solve”.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree. Can't be relied upon physically and just doesn't fit the system. Better to remember the good times he had with us and move on.

In saying that, if we needed a goal I would prefer to see him coming on than our other current back up strikers but I don't think that is a sufficient enough reason to keep him

I think you'd need to incorporate something like xG into the stats.

If team A has 10 shots on goal against but they're all outside the box with 10 men behind the ball, and team B has 2 shots on goal, from inside the 6 yard box into an empty net, then the one with fewer shots against will probably concede more goals.

That's not to say Karius and Migs aren't ****e, but we'll at the very least need to cut Alisson some slack if he's still conceding because we're giving away chances on the break.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭Sofa Spud

It's all seems too good to be true, so let's just put a reverse jinx on it and declare it all click-bait nonsense!
The Kirkby redevelopment news is welcome too and fits in nicely with the sense of building for the future - wonder how much they're getting for Melwood? Enough land for 160 homes sounds like another great bit if business that could provide a decent bit of funding for the project. Fair dues to FSG...

Alisson would be a perfect signing for our dysexic squad which will be.

    Alison
    Mingnolet
    Lovern
    van Dyke
    Robinson
    Fabino
    Winealdum
    Kieta
    Lalana
    Firminho
    Shakiri

Trust Klopp and the club, they haven't made a bad signing yet. Big money but if he's a presence and the quality of VVD it's worth it, problem position since Reina declined that needs to be solved.

Every team is built off a solid spine. If this materialises:
    Allison
    VVD
    Fabinho
    Keita
    Firmino

Now I'm not going to say I know much about Allison, but he's supposed to be one of those keepers that has all the good keeper stuff, but enhanced by his ability with the ball at his feet and distribution. If the club are fronting the cash for him, I'm behind it.

You have to add Salah to that spine, and Trent IMO. Maybe not central, but players we are building around...

I remember last year they had two breaking news items on the same yellow ticker tape looping at the bottom, one was Rooney to stay at United , the second one was Rooney to join Everton ,

Yeah that's a fair comment especially as it was conducted by a gambling company and I cant find the full results only the extract from the Echo but still if we genuinely conceded less chances than all the other top six teams and I assume all the other teams also, then to only have a higher ratio of goals conceded to chances is shocking. I would love to see what the other top 6 teams percentages were and how far we were behind them.

There were games when we were completely on top and conceding few chances only to offer up a gilt edged chance that the keeper had no chance with so the % of goals conceded to chances will be much higher than a team getting frustrated against a defensive team and taking 20 shots from outside the box. However I don't think it is unfair to expect your keeper to bail you out every so often which just doesn't seem to have happened last season.

But you are right and it is probably only worth comparing to the other top six teams rather than on a whole but I would guess that we would be well below their goalkeeping stats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,181 ✭✭✭Sappy404

With Real after Chelsea's keeper and Allison being their 2nd choice, you'd have to assume it more likely that one of them would get him. He'd presumably jump at the chance to play for Real and might fancy London over Liverpool, too, CL or not. I hope I'm wrong but Chelsea and Real might well have a part to play.

Like most of us I havn't seen too much of Alisson and he hasn't thrown in many great saves during those games but I don't remember him ****ing up or a goal going in and thinking he should have got that one (maybe when Salah chipped him he shouldn't have went down so quickly but it wasn't a glaring error). If he's an improvement on Karius (which you'd hope with the fee involved!) and just takes away that cloud of misery that is around our keepers I'll be happy.

So if this goes through, we'll have broken the record fee for a defender and a goalkeeper in the last 7/8 months. Pressure will be ramped up and I'm all for it.
