Courtious can walk away next summer for free. If he had another 3-4 years on his contract Real would be paying closer to £80m I'd guess.

Ox was the same last year and cost €30m, things have gone a little crazy in fees since then but that still makes Courtois a bargain at £40m

Until Lovren drops a clanger and everyone will be on his back again. He has had a fine second half to the season and world cup but can we be sure he is no longer calamity prone?? He has looked so much more comfortable beside big Virgil so hopefully that is all he needed.



It is not near as big an area to focus on compared to the goalkeeper and probably attacking midfield i.e Allison & Fekir but I still wouldn't be adverse to signing another centre half, not necessarily to replace Lovren but certainly to compete with him.


I thought Matip was going to be the real deal but now I'm not convinced and now I would have him definitely behind Lovren. It is telling that Lovren improved so much when playing alongside Van Dijk. Klavan was always only signed as experienced back up so can be moved on easily enough. I still have great hope for Gomez but cant really see him challenging for a centre half spot this season so a premier league loan where he will be played in the centre would be best but easier said than done.

I think you have answered your own concerns!

For me, Lovren is first choice alongside VVD. He did look a lot better beside a dominant talker, he can just do his job. And I think Matip, Klavan and Gomez is plenty of cover. It's the best CB options of any team in the league.

So definitely not where we need to focus...
