We already got a decent chunk with Shaqiri.

No need to sell Sturridge until a replacement is bought in, but it'll be hard to find a more natural finisher.

Sturridge is going to sit out his contract and leave on a free next year to get the huge signing on fee.

Any idea of when alisson joins up with the team ?

Will he be going the states ?

After the US tour at the French training camp I think.

The wife, with no interest in football, looked up at the telly during a Brazil match in the WC and asked who he was. I mentioned that Liverpool were in for him and she suggested that she might actually watch a game this season should they sign him.

Obviously she was impressed by his quick distribution!

    Hey, it's a start! :o
Keep an eye on her for your own sake:P

Barca bidding again for William off Chelsea. If he does go we should scrooge mcduck it and go all out for Dembele.

William to Barca for billions really is hard to work out if they are keeping Dembele that's for sure.

Am i missing something with dembele ?

I don’t rate him , well not for the cash been quoted

Alisson granted is alot , but by all accounts he’s meant to be savage ( i havn’t seen much of him tbh )

Absolutely fantastic player, but got a bit too much pressure put on him a bit too young, and has struggled with it. The expectation of his Barca move replacing Neymar, coupled with injuries, really seems to have gotten to him.

Absolutely no doubt he's gonna be world class for a long time though. He's still only just turned 21

Love to start seeing Woodburn fill in for one of the front three on occasion now, especially in games where we're already up. Not just seeing him with completely weakened teams, but instead with full strength around him, to see what he can do.

Just put in a higher bid for Willian so Barca are forced to cough up a few extra million for him. And do the same with every single transfer target of theirs until they go broke.

Well he seems to be having a good pre season. Pearce is biging him up so maybe he will get his chances this year. Even if we sold him it would be for what, 10-20 million? If even. We wouldnt get a good enough back up to bobby for that anyway so maybe Danny could do a job. Origi sturridge and shaq attack. Throw in lallana gini and milner and its not actually a bad front six.

Seemingly it's a never ending pit of money that will fund player transfers for the next 25 years.

We haven't even dipped into the saurez money yet

The only value I can see in it is that Chelsea wouldn't sell Hazard to Real then.

I would happily have a fit sturridge at the club. He was once borderlining world class for us and could potentially get close to that again but we all know he's gonna be on a hospitall bed by October.

Sturridge cannot be trusted. All good now in pre-season but just wait until 3 weekends in and hearing on the morning of a game that he is unavailable because of a knock. Id love him to be a success but can't see it happening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,983 ✭✭✭✭NukaCola

Will anyone take the risk on Sturridge? He wont stay fit but he's looking sharp, it would be a pricey gamble.

Barcelona want Simon Mignolet to replace Jasper Cillessen - that's the rumour in the south of Spain today.

A fit Sturridge would be a great assest to the squad.

However, we all know he won't stay fit.

Sturridge could be gold for us this season.

The feeling is that sometimes he’s not been available rather than not been fit.

He could be very happy to make himself more available whilst trying to impress suitors for a big contract when he’s available on a free next season.

We’ve seen it time and time again with other players in the past.

He’s some option to have when available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,488 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

He won't be available at Christmas, that we know. Sturridge loves his winter break, takes Christmas off every year, it's his most wonderful time of the year.
Come Dec a '' knock'' will keep him out for whole month.

the thing about someone paying a good price for ward is that he was on a relatively low wage, anyone taking a gamble on sturridge has a massive wage bill if it doesnt work out

Yet another outbreak of Sturridge related amnesia on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Also hard to believe some people can’t make the connection between Sturridge being ‘available’ when he doesn’t play and being injured after a 10 minute run out.

For the first time since Suarez left the club a sustainable challenge for the league is a possibility and this could also prove to be a motivating factor for Sturridge.

If there is a sniff of a chance of winning a medal Sturridge will be there - in 2015/16 after a chat with Klopp he ignored the little niggles and only missed a handful of games in the final 3 months of the season and scored some vital goals.

Klopp is talking him up again this summer in contrast to last year where he avoided talking about the player - that suggests Sturridge is part of his plan for the season.

We do need some "plan B" type players if we're up against a park the bus team we haven't been able to break down. In such situations Sturridge's inability to press or participate in fast counter attacks won't be a problem but his ability to sniff out a goal in a packed box and natural finishing could be a huge asset.

Solanke is another Plan B type player who is developing and IMO worth his place in the squad if Klopp wants to put a target man up front in order to try another approach.

When Sturridge is injured, Solanke imo isn't good enough. I'm going on what I seen last season. He's been pretty average, and perhaps needs regular football elsewhere to develop more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

Sturridge plays like a player scared to get unjured. Hesitant in duels & to sprint 100%.

He could be a useful option off the bench until his contract runs out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

The myth of Sturridge being useful continues lol

One decent season in his entire career playing beside the best player in the world that season.

He scored more goals last season than Solanke our #2 striker despite far less mins.

I'm hopeful Sturridge could be useful this season.

Mot Sturridge's biggest fan but he has 23 goals in his last 2 seasons. If he got 6-10 goals in all comps could be a useful contribution.

Harsh in terms of talent. Mentally though he checked out a long time ago. Would like to think we could depend on him but just can't.

There is plenty of talented players out there that never fulfilled it for one reason or another and he is one of them.

Sturridge just joins a long list.

Don't worry Willian to Barca, Dembele to Liverpool and Sturridge to Fulham/Cardiff/Newcastle will top off the season nicely :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,989 ✭✭✭Potential Underachiever

Sturridge scored 50 goals in 87 matches

Quicker to the 50 mark than Owen, Fowler, Suarez, Aldridge, Dalglish among others.

He never took penalties or free kicks

Not bad for a one season wonder riding on the Suarez effect.

Serious amnesia going on alright! The lad is a natural born predator in front of goal.

Yeah, people are referring to his goalscoring

    Natural born sicknote unfortunately

Sturridge will set the record for taking the longest time to score his second 50 for a club.

Sturridge is this generations Darren Anderton all the talent in the world however Anderton had at least had some mental strength.
