Betis badly badly need a striker. I can't emphasize It enough, our strikers are ****e.

Olympiakos have a penalty. Abate concedes it.

And they score. Advantage with the Greeks. Milan have a little over ten minutes to stay in Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

And a penalty to Olympiakos in the other crucial game. Mad last 10 in that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Good thing Milan took off Cutrone before going 3-1 down. Clueless moron of a manager to try hold on with that defence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Shocking miss from Celtic's Ajer just yards out. That was the lifeline.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,858 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Worst miss ever? Could well have been going in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Gordon's gaffe for those who missed it:

    Rosenborg have equalised!

Celtic heading through if it stays 1-1 in Germany.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,858 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Rosenberg have scored so Celtic go through anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

I thought Raheem's miss at Burnley last season was bad. Well; it was bad, actually. But he's just been outdone by Ajer there. Woeful miss.

Rosenberg may have just saved Celtic.

    Peno for Celtic

And Celtic have scored after the pen's saved. :pac:

Milan out, on the upside I'll have to watch them less now. Like Spalletti from Tuesday night Gattuso should be told to f*ck right off after their European performances.

To be fair though Milan have been absolute scour all season, I still can't believe that they are fourth in the Italian league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I see Eintracht won in Italy. 100 per cent record for them in a group that contained Lazio and last season's finalists Marseille. Great achievement and pleased to see Sebastien Haller get another goal, continuing his excellent form. Salzburg and Eintracht have been the standout performers in the competition. Marseille have been shocking, finishing with just a point. Garcia signed a new contract not long ago too but they look a right state this term.

Chelsea vs Napoli final. Sarri against his old club; Carlo against his old club.

    Don Carlo masterminds the win.

Celtic not seeded, Leipzig didn't qualify. Salzburg are seeded and Celtic go into the unseeded teams. Celtic can draw any of the following:

    Bayer Leverkusen (GER)
    Zenit (RUS)
    Dinamo Zagreb (CRO)
    Arsenal (ENG)
    Real Betis (ESP)
    Villarreal (ESP)
    Eintracht Frankfurt (GER)

    Chelsea (ENG)
    Napoli (ITA)
    Valencia (ESP)
    Internazionale Milano (ITA)
    Benfica (POR)

So please, please let it be Genk, Zagreb or Kyiv (and maybe Frankfurt).

So many top teams in the draw, but hopefully they all take the approach that they put weakened teams out and Celtic manage to get to the final :)

Wouldnt mind Villareal, Rangers drew twice with them, id be ok too with Zenit, i certainly dont want Frankfurt either but everyone of the top seeds will be a big ask

So please, please let it be Genk, Zagreb or Kyiv (and maybe Frankfurt).

Frankfurt would soundly beat Celtic imo. 100 per cent record in arguably the toughest group, and an attacking trio of Rebic, Haller and Jovic that is scoring goals for fun in the Bundesliga and this competition.

I'd agree about Genk or Kyiv being the best options.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭brianregan09

Napoli won't be near the final imo , they didn't take it serious at all last season , I'm sure this will be the same

Delighted everyone is writing off Arsenal , we'll just keep doing our business quitely hope we get Celtic in the next round, there an awful side and shouldn't have even got through the group, I reckon we'd wipe them out handy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Draw coming up at noon.

Think the Premier League teams will be grand at this stage of the competition, though Lazio or Shakhtar would be tricky.

    Inter to play Rapid Vienna.

    Napoli take on FC Zurich.

I thought it was an underwhelming draw early on but it picked up well. There's a few ties that I'd like to watch, particularly:

    Shakhtar vs Eintracht
    Celtic vs Valencia
    Rennes vs Real Betis
    Lazio vs Sevilla

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Ragnar Lothbrok

Lazio v Sevilla is the pick of the round.

Hopefully Celtic can raise their game and give Valencia a problem or two (but I'm not confident that will happen :o)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Malmo should be an easy game for Chelsea, their season starts in March and usually ends in November so playing them in the middle of February should be a huge advantage for us.

Shame this competition is underrated as there's a nice selection of games tomorrow, and VM showing all of them.

Rennes vs Betis and Celtic vs Valencia are the ones I'm most looking forward to. Also going to keep an eye on Lazio vs Sevilla and Shakhtar vs Eintracht.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Rennes vs Real Betis teams (live on VM Sport Extra 5):
Rennes XI: Koubek; Traore, Da Silva, Mexer, Zeffane; Andre, Grenier; Hunou, Ben Arfa, Sarr; Niang.

Real Betis XI: Joel Robles; Mandi, Javi Garcia, Sidnei; Guardado, Lo Celso, Canales, William Carvalho, Junior; Loren, Joaquin.

Excited to see how Sarr gets on and Ben Arfa's capable of something special. Disappointed Bourigeaud is on the bench but reckon he'll appear at some stage. It would be some achievement if Julien Stephan can get a positive result tonight. Nice to see Lo Celso in action again.

Elsewhere, Ireland's Ryan Nolan on Inter's bench for their visit to Rapid Wien.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    HUNOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

What a start for Rennes! Ben Arfa and Zeffane doing very well in the build up.

Ben Arfa hits the crossbar with a fabulous free-kick. Keeper got a slight touch.

And now it's 2-0 to Rennes! Controversial goal as there's a goalmouth scramble. Referee gives the goal after consulting with the linesman.

    Amazing start to this game.
