Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    What a stupid point

I didn't say take away all of Ronaldo's aspects I said take away his goals.

However seeing as you have interpreted his goals as all of his aspects you've essentially proved the point I was making.

But why would you consider the "take his goals away" comment as being credible way to dismiss him? Sure if you gave a big lumbering Tony Cascarino circa 660 goals in 630 career games at the highest level of the game, he would be an all time great footballer too.

This "take away his goals and..........." comment is just a pointless way to take a dig at him (which you clearly are doing)

That's like saying take away De Gea's ability to save a ball and he is not a great keeper! It really is as stupid as that. Messi would be a pretty ineffective striker if he didn't score and make these "misleading assists" you refer to also.

Christ I hate these stupid Messi v Ronaldo debates!

But that's exactly the point Messi is much more than a striker so although if he didn't score many goals he wouldn't be that great a striker he'd still be a great player.

Zidane barely scored 10 goals a season and it doesn't stop him being an all time great player.

Ronaldo is a great striker and one of the best of all time but his overall game is well behind Messi's.

Messi is the complete attacking player and has a lot more to his game than Ronaldo.Messi as a player is like Zidane combined with Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is a better defender than Messi lets talk about that

Not sure what you're talking about to be honest.

It's quite obvious that Messi's overall game over the years is superior to Ronaldo's.

French authorities, acting on a UEFA tip, are reportedly investigating possible match-fixing in PSG’s recent 6-1 thrashing of Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League. One of Red Star’s senior figures supposedly tried to bet millions of Euros on the Serbs losing by 5 goals. #UCL

I remember watching that 6-1 game. Didn't detect anything suspicious but it's so easy to fool people if there's a will to do so. I do recall hearing that Red Star had a run of 30+ games unbeaten before that game, and if (big if) these allegations are true, it makes you wonder about that too.

Not sure how you could engineer a 5 goal defeat.

Was it not 5 goals or more? You could but you'd want a fair few payers in on it. Sounds unlikely. If they beat us 4-0 at Anfield I'll be real suspicious.

Wish some of the games on Wednesday were on Tuesday instead. PSG vs Napoli, Dortmund vs Atletico & Inter vs Barca all on at the same time

Not many people in Ireland are going to watch AEK vs Bayern. They need a re-think for next year... revert back to both free to air channels get games on 8PM on Tuesday/Wednesday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Team news for the early kick-off:
AEK Athens XI: Barkas; Bakakis, Lampropoulos, Chygrynskiy, Hult; Galanopoulos, Simoes; Bakasetas, Klonaridis, Mantalos; Ponce.

Bayern XI: Neuer; Kimmich, Süle, Hummels, Rafinha; Javi Martinez, Thiago; Robben, James, Gnabry; Lewandowski.
Young Boys XI: Wölfli; Mbabu, Lauper, Von Bergen, Benito; Fassnacht, Sow, Sanogo, Sulejmani; Assale, Hoarau.

Valencia XI: Neto; Piccini, Diakhaby, Gabriel, Gaya; Carlos Soler, Parejo, Kondogbia, Ferran Torres; Rodrigo, Batshuayi.

Big game for Valencia. Can't afford to drop points if they want to keep pressure on Juve and United.

I'm expecting two convincing away wins. It's very important for both Valencia and Bayern to pick up 3 points tonight.

Batshuayi rounds the keeper and scores to give Valencia the lead. Nice McGregor celebration.

Is that the same Chygrynskiy that had the big money move to Barca that time?

Think so. I'd forgotten about that spell he had there.

Bayern very disappointing in the final third. Everything breaking down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Young Boys equalise from the spot via Hoarau. They've started the half well. Poor challenge from Parejo to concede the pen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Wonder how far the top teams would have to drop for Bayern to be at their level right now. They've been shocking so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Bayern finally get their goal thanks to Javi Martinez and then Lewandowski gets a second practically straight after. Two goals in quick succession which surely ends Athens' hopes. All their work tonight undone that fast.

What was on in OT recently that there's extra lines painted?

Edit super league final was it ?

Lyon should be 1-0 up. Fantastic back-heel assist from Ndombele but Traore hits it wide.

Utd have been in trouble for a long time :(

Haven't been following them or even Ireland much, putting my ''I'm not a fair weather fan' mantra to the test.

Utd have no clue, juventus have as much time and space as they need to move the ball.

What's the story of the grey lines every 10 yards or so?

Shaw is so out of his depth it's painful. Juve getting massive joy down that flank.

Traore has given Lyon the lead at Hoffenheim after a bad defensive error from Vogt.

Update: lead didn't last long. Kramaric has equalised from close range. 1-1.

2-0. Laporte. No more than we deserve. We've battered Shaktar so far;hit the post, had one cleared off the line, squandered several decent opportunities.

United are getting slapped around here by Juve. Goes to show what happens when you reward mediocrity.
