Astonishing f*ck up from Lyon. 2-0 up, opposition down to ten men, creating chances galore and not taking them, and then conceding two goals.

Questions will be asked of Genesio taking off Fekir and Ndombele when they were leading. Group should have been wrapped up tonight but it's still all to play for.

Even in victory, Mourinho is classless.

Still, it’s the scoreline that’ll be remembered at the end of the day and Juve were made to rue their missed chances at 1-0.

Whatever he was doing with his mouth was hilarious. Juve aren't really the club to be able to take a moral high ground on it.

Plus, it'll be gas when Utd lose to some crap team and it'll come back to bite him

The most defensive manager in the world masterminds victory against a near unbeatable team.

Other more celebrated but far far far far far far less successful managers could take a few lessons from him about how to adjust the team depending on the opposition.

Adjust it to actually win though.

Haha Sounness called on his bull****. Fair play Mick

Not a Mourinho fan but the Juve fans are giving him abuse all game so if they can dish it out, they should be prepared to take it.

Fair play to Mick McCarthy there putting Souness in his place for saying Mourinho was out of order by bringing up him sticking the flag in the pitch. :pac:

Even though they lost on match day 1 to an unfacied Lyon I'd have City as early favourites.
For no other reason but the pace they play at is bound to give other top sides trouble. Them vs Juve would be interesting over 2 legs.
I think they'd get the better of a Bayern, PSG or Madrid; they'd comfortably beat Munich at that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,402 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Great result for United there. Completely undeserved but that's football.

Whatever you think about Mourinho st the end, Souness of all people can't take the moral high ground.

Fair play to McCarthy for reminding him of the flag in the Istanbul derby

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Barcelona.

    In all competitions I mean.

Pleased to see Ajax get a draw tonight. I believe if they beat Athens they're guaranteed to make the next stage.

Yeah, Bayern have 10 pts, Ajax 8 pts, Benfica 4 and AEK 0pts. Bayern have Benfica at home next time out. Tough ask for Benfica to get the win they need at Bayern.

Looking back at replays of Ronaldo's goal, De Gea would have to take some of the blame considering the ball traveled from almost the halfway line and (would have) landed 10 metres from the goal.

Ndombele's vs Hoffenheim for those who missed it:

Such a big-game player and still only 21. If he can add more goals to his game he'll become the complete package. Incredible potential considering his best years are ahead of him. He's kept his place in Deschamps' squad for the upcoming November games too.

Klopp will have to play his strongest XI against PSG to get something from the game. Win and it's job done. He has to go for it. They've a tough month ahead fixture wise, with Everton at the weekend, which they'll win easily but it'll be a hard game physically and two games per week for most of December.

An exit from Europe would be a blessing in disguise for them in terms of the league but I'm not sure how well the fans will take it. The Europa league would be a disaster for them.

They do seem to pick the most yawnsome games for early kick-offs. I suppose there's a rough inverse relationship between how far east a CL game is played and how interesting it is likely to be to someone in GB & I.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I'd say AEK Athens vs Ajax looks the pick of the early games. If Ajax win they are through to the last 16. Not much riding on the other game.
AEK Athens: Barkas; Bakakis, Chyrgrynskiy, Galo, Oikonomou; Alef, Galanopoulos; Hult, Livaja, Mantalos; Ponce.

Ajax XI: Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Wober, Blind; Van de Beek, Frenkie De Jong, Schone; Neres, Dolberg, Tadic.

I suspect I'm not alone in watching mainly to see how De Jong and De Ligt get on.

Ajax are on their way. Tadic scores from the spot and Livaja has been given a second yellow for handling in the box.

Update: Tadic makes it 2-0 within minutes. Ajax heading through.
