Can't see United getting past PSG. Spurs will have a tough time with Dortmund, but i think Liverpool and City will win their ties.

A lot can change between now and the games but my initial thoughts for teams going through would be:

    Man City
    Juventus
    PSG
    Dortmund
    Barca
    Porto
    Real Madrid
    Liverpool

Not really, Liverpool are top of the premier league and Bayern are not quite the team they used to be. It will be a close tie, but Liverpool are probably slight favourites

Not in my opinion. Bayern poor enough in an already pretty poor league. 9 points off BVB. I'd expect a comfortable win for Liverpool. Bayern aren't close to what they were a few years ago

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Atletico vs Juve could be bowling shoe ugly. Real, Barca, Roma & City will be more than pleased with the draw.

I think it will be close as Bayern have the second leg at home but I think Liverpool will edge it. Don’t think it will be seen as much as an upset judging both teams on their performances this season.

Funny enough having the second leg away mite suit Liverpool as VVD misses the first leg and you'd rather be missing him at home than away,

He is without question Liverpools most important player,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I wouldnt write Bayern off anyway, these games are over 2 months away and form and injuries can happen in the mean time.

At the moment, of all the English teams, I'd only be confident of City going through but Pool, right now, would be favourites to knock out Bayern.

Not so sure about that. Liverpool have been terrible away from him in the CL, deservedly losing all three games. If they don't go to Munich with a positive result, I can't see them going through.

Wouldn't call that an easy draw. Lyon were superb against Man City. A similar performance over two legs will challenge Barca.

I dunno they beat Real and Inter without Messi. Lyon did fantastic against City but still needed some thing on match day 6 as they drew 5 games in a pretty weak group with Shaktar & Hoffenheim.

it could go either way for Liverpool being so bad away and still going through may be the kick in the bum they need to sort out the away performances or they could just continue to be bad , Hard to call ,

Barca are there for the taking if and big if Messi has a bad game ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Big fan of Lyon as they have several players I like such as Ndombele, Mendy, Depay, Fekir and Aouar. I do think Barca are a step too far for them though, especially if Messi is fit. On current form Messi would put a stop to any team.

They'll be great matches I'm sure. I hope they can pull off the surprise.

You said barca beat real without messi. Moscow also best real convincingly. It shows that real arent up too much this season. And that it wasnt a great feat for barca to beat real without messi.

Sorry to be pedantic, but there's no club called "Moscow". And if one of the 5 major Moscow clubs is to be called just "Moscow", it's Spartak, not CSKA.

The way Real are playing, Ajax may fancy taking a scalp off them. Wouldn't be overly surprised, but Real will fall over the line one way or another most likely. Infact, they'll probably get a decisive ref call at a crucial moment in the game as always.

Spurs would of beaten Dortmund last year, but it will be very close now. You'd have to fancy BVB to shade it, but it will be end to end stuff. Arguably tie of the round.

The other tie of the round is the Pool and Bayern. You'd have to fancy Liverpool, but Bayern look like they're beginning to get their act together domestically. It will end up being very close I'd say.

PSG and United looks good on paper, but PSG will hockey them, particularly if they get an early goal and force United out of their park the bus tactics.

Schalke haven't a hope against City. Gone way back from last year.

Don't really know what to expect from Lyon, draw alot of games you'd expect them to win in France. A bit inconsistent and Barca should ultimately have too much for them.

Porto probably wanted Ajax, but got the next best thing in Roma, and Roma will be thinking the same. Roma will beat them, but Porto always seem to get the softest draw available to them year after year. The groups they get are consistently weak and they are a poor enough outfit over the last 5 years compared to what they once were. Benfica threw the league away last year on the run in.

Juve and Atletico will produce a borefest. It will be very close, but I suppose the money will have to be on Juventus.

Can't argue with any of that.....fair enough predictions.

Except maybe for Madrid getting a decisive ref call at a crucial moment in the game as always.

They won 4 CLs in 5 years - give them some credit as a football team. They couldn't all have been fixed.
