Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Young Boys in United's group.

Might put money on Utd to lose one of those ties

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭green123

2 English teams in groups A-D, 2 others in groups E-H.
That way two are playing each night Tuesday or Wednesday.
Always been the way, you could never have the four English teams in A-B-C-D.

Ditto for the other countries with more than one team.

Thanks for the explanation, i never noticed that before

I thought they should be able to go into any group apart from city ?

Had to go into the same side as Man City for fixtures

City getting a handy draw for once, United getting a tough draw for once. Nothing is going Jose's way.

Zanetti getting younger while the rest of us look like s**t.
Bayern's is the group that would be great if it were 2006.

Tough groups for all the english teams except city

Some very intresting ties to look forward too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,907 ✭✭✭munchkin_utd

when are the fixtures released ?

Itll be interesting this year with the early kickoff times too and seeing who outside of the eastern clubs will get those allocated !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Some cracking draws across all the groups. There is always one random draw with no heavyweight and that will be group D this year.

All tough groups for United, spurs and Liverpool. Exciting ties though.

Look to be pretty interesting groups to be fair, might make the group stage a bit more competitive this year.

Modric named Player of the Year. No wonder Ronnie didn't turn up. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Modric the deserving winner of that award, without a doubt the best season his career and he was immense in the Champions League final.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

City, Bayern, Real and group D are very handy groups but the rest are fairly stacked.
Looking forward to a few ties that will no doubt clash.

An moderately interesting group stage for once.

It's usually a bore but some decent ties this year.

People trying to kick off a Salah vs Ramos fans row, Twitter is just so stupid.
Like watching the draw to see if there are any major surprises as regards groups.
I won't watch many group stage games though, much rather watch a good midweek championship game.

Apparantly UEFA are looking at a third tier competition from 2021. Might be good for LOI.

I first read this as 2 matches and a row with the wife. Both nights is asking a bit much as she may use the silent treatment before taking your head off when you try justify watching Villarreal vs Rangers on Thursday.

I'd imagine they'll not want to lose the first game either and be straight on the back foot as their 2nd game is Barca at Wembley, not exactly a gimme. :o

On a side note, no coverage on free-to-air Irish TV of the Wednesday matches? That's disappointing/annoying.
I'd have thought that TV3 would get another early KO with RTE getting the night, but it seems they just have the rights to one game each per week.

I was reading on gazetta dello sport(thinly veiled I'm learning Italian post) that spaletti went crazy at them the last day after the game. Also Vecino(according to my beginners italian) is back.

It looks like it is tonight. They have Liverpool vs PSG listed for tonight on the Virgin Media Sports channel. But I think the Spurs game at 5.55 is the free one (on Virgin Media One?).

Why have the Irish stations decided to go with having matches on the same night, as opposed to the old arrangement of tues and wed night? It can't be down to competing for viewers, as the games don't clash.

    Teams for the 5:55 kick-offs:
Inter XI: Handanovic, De Vrij, Miranda, Skriniar, Asamoah, Vecino, Brozovic, Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic, Icardi.

Tottenham XI: Vorm, Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Lamela, Son, Kane.
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen; S. Roberto, Pique, Umtiti, J. Alba; Busquets, Rakitic, Coutinho; Messi, L. Suarez, Dembele.

PSV Eindhoven XI: Zoet; Dumfries, Schwaab, Viergever, Angelino; Rosario, Hendrix, Bergwijn, Pereiro, Lozano; De Jong.

Hard to believe it's almost ten years since the famous Spurs/Inter clashes that announced Bale on the European stage. Not sure this game will be as good as them but I fancy Spurs to win away. Should be a handy Barca win too I imagine.

Spurs fans no doubt rehearsing 'taxi for Miranda' chants.:P Maybe leave out the 'for' to make it scan....

Not sure Son or Lamela will have quite the same impact though.
