Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Atletico will be tough draw next round, no way Juve score against that wall in second leg.

    Sterling.

    Schalke are utter pants.

    No, not a betting man.

Just fancied them. Dogged CL team and Juve haven't been playing well of late.

Full credit to pep and his team coming from behind to win.

Because I'm sure you become conditioned to these European refs giving frees for every touch.

Tbh,even when they were 2-1 down, Man City would have been confident of overturning things against what I thought was a pretty limited Schalke team.

Then Schalke went and showed just how limited they are.

Schalke are dire. Even if they hung on for the win, City would have hammered them at home.

Looked like City were going to face a messy second leg but they've one foot in the quarters now. Pep can afford to rest a few key players.

I wonder how many times Sane has buried a shot into that goal like that?
He was at that club since age 9, and he looked nerveless and almsot fated to score.
Overall, I don't rate him as highly as other City midfielders (and maybe I'm wrong in my judgement0 but when he took the ball last night I thought, "He'll score here".
The third goal was ridiculous, but I see people here implying Sterling is weak. I don't think so. Several times on the left wing they were unable to get him off the ball. Job done though for City now.

I thought the keeper was awful for the third goal , he lost all awareness of where he was,

Sane at City is brilliant but I think Sane at Liverpool would be sensational ,I think how they play would suit him more

Pep can afford to rest a few key players.

Looks like it was a good game for Fernandinho to pick up his booking and automatic suspension, even if it sure didn't look that way when it actually happened.

Pep will not rest any additional key players. Missing Fernandinho is a big enough change on its own.

Ramos got a 2 game ban for his misconduct. Harsh in my opinion

Not if it includes the game he was already purposely missing.

It does. But i dont see how it is different to other tactics. Running the ball into the corner etc.
Might dispel the uefa and reap madrid rumours a bit

Well there is a precedence there for doing it as Carvajal got the same ban last season for intentionally seeking a booking. Ramos admitted to wanting to get booked, which he shouldn't have been stupid enough to do.
To me its a one game ban as he was missing that Ajax game anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

it happens all the time but it's hard to prove luckily Ramos admitted to it on live tv . It's essentially cheating, an extra game is the least he should have got

No it is not it has happened to others before including Ramos.

Also a Valencia player was handed the same for getting a deliberate yellow in the Celtic game

Its impossible to prove, unless you're stupid enough to say it in the media.

That kind of stupidity in its own right should carry a lengthy ban.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Great now if Ajax turned them over and he missed two group games next season

Ah, now. It's very possible to prove. Like simulation nof scientific calculation but you review footage for what it is, it goes to in front of a panel of sorts and common sense comes into it.
There have been some laughable occasions in the past. Ramos one wasn't over clear cut, especially as the scoreline is still somewhat in the balance. But his reputation and in this situation his brazen honesty caught up with him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,744 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Ramos was done for this before no? Didn't him and Casillas essentially stand there refusing to take a goal kick/throw in until they got booked?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Think it was Arbeloa and Casillas when Mourinho was over Madrid yes, maybe Alonso too?

Carvajal got done for screwing around with a throw in when real were 6 up against Apoel in final group game (or penultimate maybe?)

Loving Ajax. Real are there for the taking, awful run if defeats at home looks set to continue if they dont get their act together, hopefully they wont.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,050 ✭✭✭✭The Talking Bread

    Absolutely brilliant!

For a player that has been at the top, won everything, has been in every situation in these cup competitions, what sort of imbecile was he to think that he, one of their best players, could force a yellow just sit out a second leg they barely scraped through in the first place.

This was written in the stars!

Ronnie's bar is pretty low. Telling us 3 times what a great save that was from lloris. Ball was straight at him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

    Thanks lads!

Never checked that main one, just assumed it wouldn't be on as RTE had the game on and assumed 2 of them wouldn't be showing one each. Rookie mistake and missed the 2 goals

Madrid behind and getting bossed... How will the referee manage to bring them back in with VAR watching??

Plenty of time left for a comeback but it be so sweet if Ajax can hold out.

Long 70 minutes for Ajax, but they had 2 more good chances.

Finally a CL game that I can feel gonna be dramatic.

If ajax get another Madrid will need 3, they are in big trouble
