Great chance now for Porto. Can Olsen redeem himself in the eyes of the Roma fans?

Telles scores. Porto on the brink.

All the English teams will fancy Porto or Ajax in the qfs.

And now another VAR penalty award.

Think the ball was gone personally but can see why it was given.

    Porto convert it.

Ajax would fancy any of the English teams except city.

Another VAR penalty review in the Porto game, this time for a foul on a Roma player.

    This is mad stuff.

EDIT: not given. Probably the right decision.

VAR maybe about to give Roma a pen now.

    Not so, this time

Have some cracking players, a lot of pace and are lethal on the counter.

All over. Porto through and Roma out.

    Pleased for Sergio Conceicao.

Really happy with the four teams that have advanced so far.

One positive aspect of VAR - its going to eliminate the dark arts of Italian defending.

That was a pen for Roma. Granted over the 120 minutes they wouldn't have deserved it but that was far more of a pen than some of the ridiculous ones given a few weeks ago.

Why the Fvck was Ole wearing that fvcking bib on the sideline?? Was he parking cars, or stewarding or something.

Incorrect actually Porto topped their group and bested Roma tonight who were runners up to Real Madrid in the group stage :)

I presumed cos his black suit maybe clashed with PSGs dark kit but then Tuchel was in all black too.

Really looking forward to the Juve game. Hopefully an early goal for them and should be a cracking game, going by last months match

That Bayern, Pool game is very hard to call.

Juventus need an early ish goal as Atletico will defend...defend...and defend a 2 goal lead.
Barca game could be good, especially if Lyon manage a goal, which is very plausible given barcas defence.
City game should have a few goals.
Bayern game could be a real cracker, they wont defend at home like they did at Anfield. 20% of their possession was within 20 yards of their own goal that night. If they attack it will suit liverpool.

Liverpool are in for a very tough evening in Munich. Bayern had a very easy 6-0 win on Saturday, whilst Liverpool looked leggy against Burnley. Klopp has to play the front three again and I think this may be a bridge too far for them. Barca, Madrid & Man City will go through in the other games.

Very tuff game alright but don't think they looked leggy v Burnley at all ,
They had a week off and played very well could have scored 5 or 6
Burnley opening goal may be swaying you but that was a fluke and should have been a free out,

Also I'd expect Henderson and Keita to start in midfield and they didn't start the weekend,

Liverpools third that likely finished the game as a contest was as poxy as they come too. Goalkeeper kicks ball straight to Salah who should finish himself but falls over however in the mess the luck doesn't run out ball fails to be cleared which allows Firminho to slot the ball into the empty net.

Not being smart but what is your point ?
Are you trying to see without it the game was close ?

Liverpool missed a load of chances , Mane hit the bar from a foot away ,

Liverpool where not leggy yesterday at all ,

Do you actually watch the games or just make stupid comments like above in order to try back up some claim that Liverpool were poor?
Incredibly harsh on Taylor who actually made a brilliant recovery tackle after racing back to make up ground on Salah. Firmino in the right place to finish off the chance after the tackle.

you can skip to around 7.00 here

Fwiw opted for the Villa game live at the time caught the Pool game on motd absolutely not making out Pool were poor but Burnley most certainly were Liverpool deserved the win but were Liverpools goals particularly the 1st and 3rd as already mentioned very fortuitous? I very much think so. Soz

He's right tho? In terms of City's history the club are teenagers compared to the experienced clubs. In terms of squad are any CL winners?

Can't think off the top of my head but the big hitters standing out aren't. Did KDB get it at Chelsea?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

They've been in the CL for 8 seasons in a row, they've had three managers of CL level quality and a squad to reflect that fact. I think it's a stretch to suggest they are shy and awkward now.

Of course it's a stretch he's going to downplay it as much as possible, put in comparison to other clubs they are inexperienced as a club.

This year is their big chance if the draw is kind.

I think he's right as they made 1 semi final in which they left no impression losing out to Madrid who had a half fit Bale & an unfit Ronaldo.
They are expected to improve this season as quite frankly the standard of some top sides has dropped & they have zero reason to fear anyone else. Barca & Atletico/Juve are the other main contenders. Yes, I still think Juve can beat Atletico.

It will be tough with carrying in a nil all draw at home into this leg. At least Bayern didn't get an away goal. If Liverpool start strong and get a goal early, Bayern will need to get 2 to win it.

All comes down to the match on the night. Bayern have advantage playing at home but don't think Liverpool will fear them. Hopefully it will be a good game either way.

Bayern will attack they need to win, they are Bayern Munich who since Jupp Hynckes (full time) have hugely underachieved in the CL.

So how many billions does he need to spend to make them cl adults?

Gotta love this guy. Has all the money in the world to spend, is meant to be a master tactician, the best of a generation, but still banging out the excuses.

Fancy city, bayern, barca, atleti to progress.

Considering the squad they have compared to other European counterparts I think a record of
    2014 - Champions League Semi-Final
    2015 - Champions League Semi-Final
    2016 - Champions League Semi-Final
    2017 - Champions League Quarter-Final
    2018 - Champions League Semi-Final

    isn't too bad.

They were unlucky against Madrid last season. Brilliant in the second leg, the year before well beaten (but again against Madrid), and lost to Atletico on away goals, the year before that
They have lost to the eventual winners in all but one of their exits in the last 5 seasons.

I don't think they underachieved hugely.

Lets not forget how bad Liverpool are away from home in Europe the last few years , Napoli , PSG, red star, Madrid (final) Roma, have all beaten them ,

Only wins where against Porto, Maribor and a domestic game v City ,

I think City have an exceptional chance to win it this year with PSG, Real already out and Juve barely hanging on.

Lot of the bigger teams are coming to the end of their cycles and dont look as good as they were, it might be Citys best hope of a CL title.
