Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Crazy price for tickets for a competition which takes place every year. If it was the Euros or World Cup it might be one thing but they are mad prices.

    No need to continue, thanks.

He doesn't really need to name any of them but looking at the likes of Legia, PAOK, Fenerbache, Galatasaray,... on European nights (or even in their own domestic leagues) are on a different level when it comes to atmosphere.

I'm sure the different laws in different countries regarding alcohol, standing, flares etc on European nights affects the atmosphere.

    As does ticket prices.

That's true enough but unfortunately they can't compete on the pitch enough to make knock out games in the champions league,

Altmosphere normally only effects players when its accompanied by a side that can cause you problems,

Possibly why the big names players mentioned places like Liverpool ahead of these as they remember big games and big nights

Crazy price for a ticket you have to pay for when there's still 8 teams left in the competition!!

Well for a start Celtic Park, Ibrox, Selhurst Park, Elland Road have better atmospheres in UK alone.

German League right down to Div 2/3 is just as good as Liverpool.

    Polish/Greek/Turkish Leagues all far superior

    Will I continue?

How have you measured this vs big European nights at Anfield? This was the comparison, not mid day kick offs in October vs Huddersfield.

Been to Anfield with my Dad who’s a Liverpool fan on a few European nights, and Ajax at home on a Sunday morning in a league game was better

It’s not a dig, it’s well know and accepted (even by English fans) that European atmospheres are twice as good as English grounda

The laws are the same, been to a chunk of European nights at Stamford Bridge over the years they are dictated by UEFA alcohol was banned from being sold for quite a number of years. The ban was lifted for this season actually. Stadium criteria would be under their instruction too I'd imagine.

Don't the always do practise draws in these kind of things so it goes alright on the day?

of course they do, even just for the simple issue whether the person drawing the teams opens the ball themselves or passes it on to someone else or who knows what.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,366 ✭✭✭✭8-10

If UEFA don't rig draws it means they'll be bricking it later hoping that it doesn't turn out exactly as the pic shows

Really good draws for Liverpool and Porto. Fancy United to turn over Spurs and can't call Man City v Barca.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,366 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Anybody know any good twitter accounts to follow that normally give out the exact dates of the ties after the draw?

It's usually known an hour or so after the draw but will be looking to book flights before they shoot up in price

is the draw available to watch on line any where legally?

Depending on the draws City and United could end up facing each other 4 times in 17 days ,

Which would be mental but it isn't going to happen

    2 champions league Quarter finals
    1 Prem
    1 fa Cup semi final

    Worst possible draw for Utd.

Arguably the best 4 teams kept apart...

    United V Barca
    Liverpool Porto
    Spurs City
    Ajax Juve

Liverpool with the easiest draw of the premier League teams.

City will be happy with Spurs tho.

    Barca
    Juve
    Liverpool
    City

    My guess

Liverpool favourites, I know they don't like that word

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That should be the end of United. They've hopefully used up all their jammy luck for this season. Pity Barca and Liverpool will meet in the semi-finals should they win their respective matches. It would have made a great final.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Berserker

Potential of a CL&PL double for Liverpool is big now after that draw. They are in the CL semis now with a very winnable game against Barca. Bit of work to do in the PL but they'll win that, as I've said all along. I think Juventus will take out City in the semis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

    City v ajax

Waste of time even playing the remaining 13 games. They'll have to play both City & Juve at the same time for it to be a competitive final

Ajax haven't a hope of beating Juventus. Porto and Ajax were the sweet draws for this round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

United and Barca will be a great game. United don't really do clean sheets so I can see them going full out attack. Should be exciting.

City have the beating of Spurs.

Juve and Liverpool to go through as well.

Liverpool with the draw everyone wanted. Two easy ties in the run up to the final.

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 23,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭GLaDOS

Think Liverpool are the only team you'd be confident in predicting to progress. You'd be foolish to dismiss Ajax after the last round and the other two ties are very interesting, even if City and Barca are favourites.

Surely from the last round we have learned it doesn't always work out like you think it should on paper .

I fancy United to beat Barca and Ajax to beat Juve,

    It'll be a City v Liverpool final

You’d have to think the semi-finals will be Liverpool vs Barcelona and City vs Juventus, but far stranger things have happened!

Interestingly, City and Spurs play each other 3 times in 11 days - the 9th, 16th and 20th!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,050 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

I can't believe everyone is so dismissive of the Ajax team.

Liverpool got the easiest team, full stop.

Yeah because away draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Wolves in the FA Cup is very lucky.

First leg at home CL draws against PSG and then Barcelona is very lucky.

Injuries to 10 first team players at the same time is very lucky.

You must have a very strange definition of luck.

Utds only hope is to be clinical on the break ,they will be starved of possession in both legs.
You cant go full out attack if you dont have the ball.
