I haven't even done anything to do with the main quest and I've not only found tons of Overseer logs, but actually found the Overseer herself accidentally just through non-stop wandering and exploring! And I still have about 25% of the map to discover.

Just read that the next update due before end of the year will have an instanced underground vault shelter you can own and customize. Also, a new story quest line called Steel Dawn about the return of the brotherhood of steel.

I was expecting that...there's an area in the map with buried BOS members and and abandoned BOS base that I tried to enter, but even at level 22 it's impossible.

Another day of enjoying this but seeing a few annoying bugs. One in particular means i can't respawn when i die. Died twice today and both times, i had to quit out of the game and open it up again. No icon on the map gave me a respawn option.

I've hit a few minor bugs but one horrible one earlier. I realised I hadn't been claiming the season rewards and unboxed a load at once, one of which was 3.5k caps. I poured that all into bulk screws/acid etc. Broke them down and got ready to start upgrading good old Camp ButtNugget and none of them were there.
Also did my first workshop development today, the Poseidon Power Plant. I thought I was pretty clever after having seen other relative n00bs take them but not put down extractors, off I went plonking them down at every resource point put up some new defenses and went off to continue play. Popped back once or twice for defense and to check on inventory but they stayed empty. It took me about an hour and a few trips to realise they also need to be powered .... 00bern00ber . Once i had that done a lvl 100+ guy turned up, so I nervously waved and got ready for a fight. He just wandered into the plant to farm. I came back 20 mins later for a defense again and he came out and helped me clean up. I've not been attacked once in this game so far, even in situations like this were there are resources to be had. Christ coming from The Division and it's cesspit the Dark Zone it's night and day in playerbase attitude.

Aw I can't wait build camps like yours, sounds class. Currently, mine consists of stash box, armour and weapon bench, bed and cooking pot.

I got a bit bored of the vanilla quests running errands for a robot mayor so I decided to start the Wastelanders quests by building the sign but first I found Power Armour in a random shed just standing there. Threw it on and went for a jog I'm out by the scouts/gun range area, pretty dead looking deserty area. I find a nice little round area, with the sides raised up giving me a bit of cover, almost like a hole if you will...

Anyway, I move my camp there but I never stored it first so have to rebuild it and think this is a good spot, loads of quests icons around me and sign is up. Then I see rads starting to blink but I'm not used to the power armour hud so I step out and nearly fry on the spot. I done camped in a hole where a bomb hit. Legged it leaving my camp behind and so annoyed I just rage quit :(

Can I have multiple camps setup or is it just 1 C.A.M.P machine? Am I able to store it and then instantly move it intact to a new area?

I'd love to start building a foundation, walls, roof, actual cover but can't commit to where I want to do it. Would be nice to set it up where I am, do all the quests, move to a new area and zap my fully intact camp there with me.

Just move it to another spot - you don't need to go back to the hot zone to pick it up, just deploy it from the options at the bottom of the pipboy screen (Z key on PC) wherever you want to drop it.

When you move camp your structures are automatically blueprinted, so depending on where and how it was built, you may be able to just plonk it back down.

If that doesn't work, you can break up the blueprint and all its component parts will become stored and you'll be able to build them again without spending any more resources.

If you're on PC I could dump you a load of plans and stuff to help out some evening.

Ah thanks but I'm on PS4. I also had to look up how to improve my lockpick skill and it seems to only increase with perk cards which are random, but annoying.

Just remember, there's nothing quest critical behind a level 1+ lock or computer.

You can unlock a few shortcuts in places, but that's about it - the rest is just a way to get a extra junk or read some more lore.

Would love to team up with some people but most people have no interest in teaming up, how do you craft ammo? I'm always running out.

I'd be happy to team up with anyone though I am on PC. Crafting ammo just needs lead, steel, gunpowder....plus plastic for shotgun shells.

You can mark components needed which makes it easier. Usually I go on specific junk runs where I just gather the max overburden limit (think it's about 650?) of junk and walk back to nearest train station and scrap it all.

There are some layers but most specifically a Tinkerer station. The layer with that, a chemistry station <- use this to convert raw mats to gunpowder (cloth and acid) and the Alloys you need (if you have ore versus already smelted scrap). You don't need plans just the right desk and mats. My own experience and the weapons I've focused on (.308 rifles) means focusing on Acid, Cloth, Lead. Even then I still have to carefully manage resources and manage secondary weapons when the primary runs low. I still don't have a handle on a good economy for this game, caps and resources are a constant worry, unlike the SP games. Honestly that's probably a good thing.

I'm on PC too, but I'm not sure what social system it uses with, Xbox or Bethesda? Presuming Bethesda. Either way I'm an 'Ahriakin' of sorts. Open to invites as a n00b (1st char at lvl 27 currently).
All of these games really need to go cross platform. So many folks on similar threads for similar games I would really like to play with that are on opposing platforms. Ridiculous in this day and age.

I think it's a great thing. In previous Fallout games, by the time you got over the noob hump, you were unstoppable, with thousands of caps, unlimited ammo, etc. Largely due to the trade system placing value on ammo.

In 76, ammo carries no value. So, typically you end up living raid-to-raid, jugging ammo types, stimpaks/HP items, etc.

I really love it. Feels more like what Fallout should be like, and means the game is always challenging and there's a real stimulus to go out and get stuck into events/raids/exploring.

Apologies for the multi-posting, a pet peeve of mine, I took some time off for the Oculus Quest 2 release and the fkrs still haven't delivered it. So blame, 1 - Whiskey (which I would not be having wearing a blinding headset), 2 - Oculus....and maybe me...focus on the first 2 though.
    Anyway.
Don't overthink your camp. There is a cost to moving and resources etc. for building but it's a part of the game and not something you can irreversibly fk up. It's a few caps to resolve or move, minus your time which if you care about this you will class as enjoyment. And DO NOT envy Camp Butt****, I'll post a picture of 1.0 below, it's not pretty, to be fair I have since discovered door technology and windows and 1.1 is much nicer. After spending 30 mins last night remodelling with visitor perception a priority, like multiple beds if they are in a group, and what door suits that bedroom best I realised I've turned into a digital version of my mother and worrying about what the guests will think....in a post apocalyptic virtual base that only I will really see.
I'd like to put this down to the Pandemic, please do if this shows up in a future documentary, but...yeah...I'm my own post-apocalyptic mom....and if you visit Camp Butt**** please remember to use a coaster.

Beth. All game stores on PC (Beth.net, Steam, Win Store) use Beth social.

tbh, crafting Gunpowder is a bit pointless. Your Acid is better saved for melting down ores, and you can grab all the Gunpowder you'll need randomly while looting, and especially off of Super Mutants.

100% agree. I got into these with F3+, Bethesda's RPG mechanic line really with Morrowind. I love them dearly but for something that is meant to be post-apocalyptic this kinda mild survivalist approach really works. With the others past maybe 10 hours you were god. 30 or so hours in now and I still struggle with balancing my gear versus enemies in terms of resources, sure my best gun sees me through but it starts to run low or breaks mid mission because I didn't manage resources well. Versus the SP games where I would be swimming in resources shortly. Less busy work quests and much more emphasis on how you carry them out with the limited resources you have. Looking at the parts of the current game that were obviously patched in with Wastelanders vs. what I think they would have been without I can absolutely see why it got hammered originally. But right now I think they have hit the right Fallout sweet spot.

Thanks. Yes I have an over abundance finally of Gunpowder but for half of the game did not. It's also heavy and impacts stash badly so that part of my economy i resolved. Earlier on though it is important imho if you find a weapon to specialise in and need specific ammo. (I went for non-auto rifles early and had a good lvl5, and now lvl10 legendary I've fully upgraded and is only now at 27 showing it's age). I've learned to balance with my secondaries better. Now though yes I balance it against smelting, especially since I finally learned to use Workshops more efficiently.

Level 13 and just finished becoming a fire breather. I read the gulf course is a great place to build a camp and it's on my way to the next objective so gonna check it out and finally try build a house. Loving this despite the bugs like lag with enemies taking a few seconds to fall over and shooting me around corners. Encountered my first 'griefer' as well. He sent me an invite to join him, didn't see anyone around and ignored it. Then he pops up in front of me with crazy armour slashing a knife at me like crazy, scared the **** out of me and realised it was doing zero damage unless i attacked back. He kept following me as i was bang in the middle of a quest and standing between me and enemies hoping I'd shoot him by accident. Have him thumbs down emoji and he went off. I traveled about half the map and he would show up and the big locations and sane thing non stop stabbing me. I finally zapped to my camp and called it a night. I know i could have logged out and into a new server but annoying all the same.

Level 28 now and have visited every landmark on the map except the place in the very, very lower right corner. The whole area is over-run with scorchbeasts and other incredibly powerful enemies that I can't even scratch at this point.

Tried to run to it a few times but kept getting killed so gave up....literally the one landmark left to visit. Haven't been doing any quests whatsoever apart from accidentally coming across quite a few Overseer logs/finding the Overseer herself from exploring.

Found a classic random Fallout event at some B n' B while wandering the map....
went in, place is a bit shady, owners are a bit cagey, so I had an idea something was gonna happen if I rented a room for 5 caps. Duly did, went upstairs and rested on the bed....heard my door open a moment later, get up and there are 4 level 40 cannibals in the room! Kill them, and find the downstairs basement is now open, and full of bodies, body parts, gore and loads of tools/chainsaws. Male owner attacks me, female owner begs for her life saying they forced her and she had no choice....so I kill her too

Absolutely loved it! I'm really unable to say enough positive things about this game and what the Wastelanders update has done for it.

So I'm 10 hours in, level 10 and just having a blast with it. I slagged the hole off this game and probably deserved it at the time but I'm really enjoying it now. It's for this sense of survival that fallout 4 lacked for me. I never fell comfortable in this as in, no over abundance of ammo, health or caps. Came across a couple of tension high level enemies like the scorched beast and even a group of ferals had me running for my life. Finding great locations with interesting lore and constant quests popping up. I unfollow them not to get bogged down but will gladly come back to them.

Anyway, i found a YouTube video on how to build a house. Copied the guys spot and it's class. Cliff edge overlooking golf resort. I only had enough resources to lay the foundation but it's a start. Have my bare essentials plus bobble head stand and pumpkins but will move them around as i build walls and a 2nd floor. I'm happy now doing quests, collecting junk and fast traveling back to do it up piece by piece. I seriously need build plans though, need to look up where to get them.

You'll get plans as rewards I think more than find them, some vendors do sell them also but they can be very expensive. There's a perk under the Luck tree that gives you twice the amount of wood scraps that will really help with your builds (there are others too with similar build benefits but that one is a must imho). Just pick up and recycle everything you find, building/crafting auto-retrieves from your stash if nearby so just keep breaking things down to scrap and dropping them off at your base/stash.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,841 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Aw great to know thanks, I've been avoiding putting anything into luck. Also, avoiding storing scrap in stash in case i forgot to take it out, that's a nice quality of life feature.

You'll get a bunch of basic things as you go through the story quest line, I forget if it's base game main quest or Wastelanders main quest though. Extra stuff your generally get from completing workshop quests (claim & defend quests), or randomly in the world. There's also a lot to be bought from the various vendor bots around the world.

If you're PC, one of my camp vendors has a bunch of duplicate plans going for 10% of their base value if you want a bunch for cheap (or even free if I happen to be there at the time) Ah tweet says PSN, never mind.

So 1st is free for the next week for everyone. That means access to the Survival Tent and the Scrapbox (but not the bonus Atoms or private world access). Do yourselves a favour and spend the entire week picking up every single bit of junk that isn't nailed down, because you can load up the Scrapbox with everything and slowly take it out as you need after the week is over.

Aha, that actually almost feels like cheating!

I'm selling my PS4 tomorrow and i will truly miss playing this. I was supposed to sell it a few weeks ago but level 3 threw a wrench into that. Now will have to sell it before level 5 starts Thursday. What started as a distraction has become something i will truly miss this for the next month until i get my ps5 but even then i will have shiny new games to play.

I hope no one destroys my floor :(

It might be, but the 400+ lbs I just freed up in my Stash doesn't really care! :pac:
