    Any thoughts on the beta?

I saw a few posts on reddit slating low frame rates and an empty open world.

I played the beta on PC last night and absolutely loved it. It was so atmospheric . I quite enjoyed the fact that there were no npcs there. Picking up holotapes and notes gave me a real sense of the destruction. Would definately recommend the game .

Apparently the pc version is an absolute cluster****. Looks terrible and runs like ****.

Would not let me log in at all, kept saying I was offline, then without warning started to re-download the entire 44 odd GB... so missed the whole thing. Lease we get a super long play test in a days time.

They should have just made fallout 4.1 with npcs and all that good stuff that we love, bring back certain elements of fallout 3, having to repair weapons etc and forget about this multiplayer game until they can perfect it.

Perfecting anything isn't really Bethesda's MO. This probably boils down to "We're missing out on microtransactions big time here. Slap Pip-Boy on something and throw it out there."

Seems other would disagree on that due to the issues around picking them up etc.

And honestly there is some great stupidity in design decisions such as locking game speed to frame rate in a game with PvP (i.e. faster movement speed AND faster shooting/melee rate) that is only going to be fixed after go live...

I probably wasn't going to get it anyway, but i'm definitely not getting it after everything i've seen over the last few days. The main issue it'll face is the fact that the combat in Fallout 4 wasn't particularly good, and this entire game is based on the combat. Without a proper story or npc's, it loses what most people actually played Fallout for.

Hold on. I saw someone mentioned no NPCs earlier, but I assumed that was just for the beta. Is there no NPCs at all?

Nope, none at all apparently. You get some recordings of dead people but that's about it. bar enemies and player characters).

Its an interesting enough idea, I just dont think it warrants a full game release.

They probably could have tacked it on as a DLC for Fallout 4 and charged €15/20 and it might have been worth it.

I dont think I'll be spending money on it anyway, it sounds like a right mess and I was hyped for this when it was first announced.

Agreed, full price is too much for this. I managed to pre-order it digitally on Xbox from Argentina for e20 or so. Otherwise I wouldn't bother getting it.

Yeah, me and a friend were talking about this earlier, we both have it pre-booked but looking likely now that we'll be cancelling.

  • Predicting it now, biggest flop of the year. Next to Metal Gear Survive

And it's simply because of stupid design choices that nobody wanted and of course the buggy mess that is a launch Bethesda game

If they blame lost revenue on not having microtransactions or something like that they can **** right off

    I agree.

I think they will do a massive overhaul of the game post-launch, something similar to the Elder Scrolls Online. Possibly make it more of a single-player game, re-introduce quests and NPCs gradually and, eventually, launch it on STEAM.

It'll sell well, just not as well as a regular Bethesda release. The Fallout name will bring in a lot of people who haven't actually done any research into what they are getting.

Just like Assassin's Creed, Fallout is in the enviable position where their games can be buggy & bland and still sell millions despite everyone on the internet claiming they dislike it.

Not this one. Fallout has always been and is solely about the lone wanderer experience, losing yourself in the world and lore including the NPCS. It is not and never has been about playing online with a bunch of dickheads. It amazes me how badly conceived this game is, who asked for it?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

To be fair, i like the idea of being able to play Fallout (or TES) in co-op. You could have a lot of fun with a friend in any of these games.

Open world, mmo style with no npc's though? No thanks.

I havent played it myself but i normally trust this guys thoughts on games, especially these types.

  • I couldn't get through that video. The guy's voice is sleep inducing.

Seems like Bethesda have really convinced themselves that single player games are dying and this is the result of such a delusion.

I think it's fans on YouTube making a desperate reach here when in reality the quality just is not there.

Disappointing but if you can accept to now you won't be shocked when it releases.

fallout 76 is set 25 years after the bomb drops you have ghouls, super mutants and mutated animals and all the population is dead 25 years later.. hmm.... The master in f1 must have sent them back in time before the vault dweller killed him.

He is one of the best POE theory crafters out there hence why i follow him.

I think what they've ended up with here is a very weak mmorpg with no where near enough content or endgame.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,301 ✭✭✭madcabbage

Not too sure where you’re going with the lack of content argurnent. Map is massive, there’s a significant amount of quests to do in each town from I’ve come across so far. Quality of the content might be lacking but there’s defo hours to burn in this game.

That is the problem though. Massive amounts of "Go to point A and kill X" is not interesting. With no NPC's, it won't be anything but that and base building. Which isn't a Fallout game.

I sure hope the modding community will make a mod that adds NPCs, storylines, quests, and voicework to the game...

Yes I would say as soon as we get private servers or even host your own servers I reckon those mods will come thick and fast.
