Fair play to Kildare and their manager for standing their ground.

No excuses accepted next year -FROM ANYBODY- regarding any acceptance of playing our home games outside the County.
    No Nowlan Park.
    No Semple Stadium.
    No Pairc Ui Caoimh.
No Limerick FFS ( Jesus, who agreed to that?)
    No "Sweeteners"
    No Compromise
    No "doing the right thing"
No Bowing to season ticket holders from other counties
No pats on the head from the Munster Council for toeing the line
    NO GIVING AWAY HOME ADVANTAGE

    And last but not least....

No negative puke sweeper fear based hurling

So what - play it in Fraher Field.

Play it in Leamybrien as far as I care.

Just don't go outside Co Waterford

There is a worrying lack of candidates within the county if he is one of the front runners. For me the only viable candidate within the county so far is Sean Power.
I like the idea of Paul Flynn aswell. He is very highly rated as a coach and was an absolute genius of a player. But management is a different ball game.
Of the other names mentioned; Hartley made a b*****x of the u21s a few years ago. Forget about him. Ken McGrath would be romantic choice but truthfully the noises coming out  his time in charge of Mount Sion were not great. Peter Queally only barely missed out on the job when Derek got it a few years ago. Could be in the mix again. As for this Jason Ryan thing, if that names starts cropping up again it says it all.
Ultimately I believe we will be looking back outside the county for the right man.
Jason Ryan will be cropping up again!

A few years back, he was a popular candidate on here.

We could do a Dublin on it with Jason Ryan along with an experienced hurling brain. He would also be a good man to have as a physical trainer in the set up

The players need to be consulted about who they want for the job cause you knw our CB

We couldn’t really. If the money isn’t there for a manager how is it going to be there for a top coach? Anthony Cunningham is probably getting as much as any intercounty manager for his role in Dublin.
If we’re going outside and paying up I’d love to see Mattie Kenny. Cuala played a lovely brand of hurling and maybe he would like to kickstart his inter county managerial career now after such success with them.
I don’t see it happening however.

The more I think about, Sean Power, Paul Flynn and one or two good selectors and an excellent fitness coach is the way to go. All well available within the county.

Good to see planning permission has gone in for Walsh Park. Any know if we can view the plans anywhere?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭reni10

Where does it say officially that the planning permission has been applied for?

Typical county board again, they should be advertising the fact that they are moving forward but again it is cloak and dagger stuff to find out about anything!

How hard would it be to put a post on their Facebook or Twitter to the plans and a great announcement about the great news on the planning permission etc!

The difference with Gilroy is at least he had been successful as a football manager. Ryan has never won anything. Its 10 years since Wexford footballers got to that AI semi final

I think that’s being a bit unfair to Jason Ryan. He did an exceptional job with an average enough Wexford team. They won the league that year and then went on a run in the Championship. They got to their first Leinster Final in years and although they were well beaten in the final he got them back up again to go out and beat Down the following week and then Armagh. They could have beaten Tyrone in the All Ireland semi if Mattie Forde hadn’t gone off injured and an unlucky bounce of a ball stopped them from getting a goal which would have put them level with 10 mins to go. The heads went down after that but he got them in some shape.

They should have won the 2011 Leinster Final too only a terrible error by their keeper led to an own goal and Dublin got a few scores after that. Ryan did an incredible job with that team and he’s still spoken of very fondly by people in Wexford. Dunno what happened with Kildare but he’s a good man and his achievements shouldn’t be underestimated. For all that Jason is, Waterford senior hurling anything he is not.

Excellent interview with DMG on offtheball during the week. well worth a listen. what does stick out locally is the standard of journalism we have in Waterford is complete ****e. Gilroy was excellent in the interview with DMG.

what will happen next with us? the next Waterford manager will get 2 to 3 years and then DMG will return. it was quite obvious from the above mentioned interview.

Why would DMG return? He has had a 5 year stint, one league title, (great achievement), lost two munster, one league and one all ireland final. Won 11 championship games from 21 (a large chunk of those wins were in qualifiers against the likes of westmeath, offaly, laois).

All this with an exceptionally good team. DMG gave it his all and deserves credit for the league title and thanks for the effort but I don't feel his tenure has been a hugh success as some people seem to think as to why people would want him back, I don't understand.

The fact we won the league in his second season we definitely should have pushed on and won at least a provincial title.

Did you really think it was a good interview? I thought it was strange to be honest. Very little insights into hurling or his views on the game or the team in general. Talking more about what he learned from arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettinos books than he did about inter county hurling management. A lot of ranting and raving. The man talks 1000 words a minute. I’d struggle to listen to him if he was my manager or teacher

Dungarvan 0-13- DLS 1-10 full time

    DLS top group B

Its group A Ballgunner have a superior scoring difference and will top the group regardless of the weekends result

All to play for in Group C with all teams on 2 points. Mount Sion vs Lismore and passage vs Fourmilewater the games this weekend

  • Registered Users Posts: 969 ✭✭✭cul beag

Shocking stuff in Walsh Park. The county championship will Be Ballygunner’s to lose going on tonight. Dungarvan scored 5 pts and DLS scored 4pts in the second half which should tell you all you need to know.

Ballyduff aren't too bad they're fielding 2 teams at adult level, but its a bit like looking at this year's leinster football final and saying ' are laois struggling for numbers or are dublin that good'

Ballyduff are missing Mikey Kearney and a few others. For a small club to miss one would be a massive loss to loose any more they can't cope.

Ballygunner were missing Philip Mahony and Barry Coughlan I'm guessing?

These big wins for Ballygunner is good for Fergal Hartleys CV for the Waterford job

Result from last night- Tallow 1-14- Fourmilewater 1-13

    Today's senior games
Grp A- Abbeyside vs An Rinn- 6.30
Grp C- Lismore vs Mount Sion- 6.30
Grp C- Passage vs Roanmore- 6.30

First Kildare are allowed play in Newbridge and now the Leinster final replay takes place in Thurles!!!!

No reason why we we couldn't play our home games in Walsh Park or Kilkenny?

County board looking worse and worse the more this season goes on, how they allowed us to be screwed over is shameful. As much we rightly blame the board for their poor efforts, you would expect to be treated with fairness by the decision makers, some thing shown up during the week by Kildare also.

When are the county board going to resign?

How come everyone else gets exactly what they want and we just have to put up with whatever we are told and don't say a word!
They are an absolute disgrace and it went right through the management and players this year.

All Ireland final last year to worst team in Munster, I am so angry that these absolute dopes are still in charge!

Absolutely no confidence in them picking a new manager.

They should all resign now and get someone else in to pick the manager, someone who actually even has half of one ball would be a great start!

If its the same process as when Derek McGrath was appointed, a recruitment team was put in in place to interview potential candidates, involving ex-players (I think James Murray & Stephen Frampton to name a couple) amongst a few other respected figures in the county. The recommendation is made by the recruitment team and put forward to the co board who ratifies it. So that way at least the candidates are recommended by people who know and understand the game. But you're right, if its down to the county board I wouldn't like to predict who might be considered...

Interesting that the 2 games we actually played nearest to our potential in were the 2  'homes games', at the GG V Tipp and Thurles v Cork. I have no doubt the fact they were not Tipp or Corks home grounds either played a factor. If the games were played within the county you'd like to think it would have been enough for us to get over the line in both these games.
Looking ahead to next year, the Leinster Council and GAA have backed down in the past week with fixtures, now is our chance to take down the biggest bully of all, the Munster Council. The precedent has been set and we should nominate Fraher Field as our home venue for next year and Nowlan Park as the alternative venue if they decide the Fraher doesn't 'pass health and safety' ($$$).  Limerick have a big following and no doubt their fans will travel wherever but im sure would  love the novelty of a trip to KK.
Clare like us don't have massive support for every game and I think Fraher Field is well capable of hosting a Munster Championship clash between both sides with the attendance capacity of 6.6k. There have been recent clashes between both sides in Munster that attracted barely 10k in Thurles.
I do believe Munster council will try and fix both for Thurles but in light of all what has happened this year we have to dig in our heels. Playing the games in Thurles is no disadvantage to either Clare or Limerick and were looking at another season with our backs to the walls again.

There's not a hope that Fraher Field could be used because of it's limited capacity. It would mean thousands of fans who would like to go could not get tickets like what happened in Newbridge.
It is interesting that the Leinster council are more flexible than the Munster council to games outside their province.
Also what about Colm Bonnar as an option for new senior manager. He has a lot of experience between WIT, Wexford, various club teams and now Carlow who he has managed to promotion in the league and now championship.

But look at the posts above, these people up in arms complaining about having to go to a neutral venue for our 'home games' will have to accept that they'll be sitting at home watching it if their that caught up on principals. Nowlan Park is the best way forward.
Colm Bonnar is a decent shout. Better than a lot of the names being bandied around for sure. Also he lives in the county and knows the scene well. His record with WIT is pretty phenomenal. I think he has won 5 Fitzgibbon Cups over a period of 10 years.
John Meyler was seen as someone like Bonner who was around the block with many years aswell, managing Carlow, Kerry and Wexford before eventually landing a the big job in Cork (Wexford were in a hole when he was in charge of them, as with Bonner). He has Cork motoring well.

What way does local senior hurling championship rum?
Top team in each group plus top second team go straight to quarter finals
Where teams are level on points is it score difference or head to head result that decides?
