    Hi all

I'm building a new home and am at a stage when I can run cat 6/ camera cable etc. Any advice on how many cables I should run where ? House has concrete floors upstairs and an attic. I could run 32mm waste pipes and have string through for pulling cable after, I'm just unsure as to run what where and why!

    Cheers

Pick a point for a Comms cabinet. Run 2x from there to each room. Additional routes for IP cams if required (weatherproof cable where appropriate).

Thanks! So 2x cat6 to each room from say the office. Can this be used for internet and smart TV etc in each room then? Thanks again

Yes, as well as for distributing Live TV over IP from Satellite and Aerial if you centralise the tuners in the media press/cabinet/room.

I retrofitted double Cat5e cables to all rooms, and in larger rooms ran two sets at opposite ends of the room. (ethernet cable is cheap)

If possible I would keep the media press separate ...... similar to a coat press or 'hot-press'.
Make allowance for coax and other cables from the exterior to be easily run into the media press if required at some future time.

Run cat6 to ceiling somewhere central for ceiling mounted access points. This is a great place for them as it gives great speeds and coverage and if you had timber floors could even cover the floor above. You can power them over ethernet using POE
