Will be in this area tomorrow and should have 3 or so hours free for a spin - any recommendations for a nice 70-80km route? Ideally with a few hills thrown in for good measure :D

UL... out the back gate towards Corbally direction,
Turn right at T junction and to broadford, nice easy steady climb.
Broadford to sixmilebridge ... go straight through the village heading back towards limerick.
When you go under bridge on a hair pin a few k up the road take the left turn(start of the best climb in Clare).
Continue straight till u get to a T junction... turn right continue climbing.
There will be a right turn just after you reach the top of this hill.., take it and continue to the real top of the climb... keep going straight to descend.
At T junction turn left and take next left will bring you in by LIT head back towards UL... prob closer to 60k... but good climbing. :)

+1. I do this route frequently. Is pretty scenic, hilly and probably about 60k roundtrip depending on your starting point
