Ireland vs USA aka John O'Shea's last stand kicks off this evening in just over an hour. Team news:
Ireland XI: Doyle; Coleman, K.Long, Duffy, O'Shea; O'Dowda, Hendrick, Rice, McClean; Walters, Burke.

USA XI: Hamid; Yedlin, Carter-Vickers, Miazga, Villafana; Trapp; Weah, Adams, McKennie, Rubin; Wood.

Not sure how we're lining up in this exactly. Maybe Walters up top alongside Burke or perhaps McClean will be pushed up. Bit surprised Doyle gets another chance after his error against France.

George Weah's son Timothy starts for the Americans. He scored in his first international start against Bolivia a few days ago.

Hope to see us get a first win of 2018.

Why is the ko listed as '20.08'? Bizarre.............

It's odd alright. I can only think it was requested by American TV for some reason.

Worrying. We might have four quarters.

Quick Google and it seems it is to allow American tv get a few extra ads in beforehand. They list kick-off as 8pm, show ads for 8 minutes, and then it finally starts

If it is the case, it's shame to see this sort of ****e being allowed for.

The game must evolve sure, but the last thing we need is it turning into anything close to the American 'event' sports.

Is there no HD variant of Eir Sports? I know there's a HD version of Eir Sport 2, but I can't find the main Eir Sports channel on Sky's EPG (in the HD channels section).

Nope, 1 HD is exclusive to eir TV as far as I know

MON just exudes negativity before he even speaks

It's a friendly. What difference does it make to us over here when it kicks off? The ads are for US tv networks.

Really delighted to see Graham Burke start. Hope he has a stormer.

So? It should have been a 7.45 or an 8pm ko. The match is in Dublin, not in the USA so the needs of US networks means f**k all to me.

Not going to bother watching it as it's painful to watch Ireland nowadays.

Sad to see so many empty seats for such a great servant's farewell. The FAI should have done something with the tickets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,882 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

Is this being shown anywhere else, for those of us without eirSport? Some obscure regional ITV or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,402 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Who is Josh and why do Eir Sport want people to tweet the hashtag #ThanksJosh?

    Did they mean John?

edit: Apparently Josh is his nickname. TIL.

Sure, not too big of a deal it being a friendly, I agree.
But I still think it sets a bad precedent if it is the case.

Should such concessions be made at the request of any country's advertisers?
And if not, why not? And where would you draw the line?

Worst part of every home match is this "presidential saltut"

    Just get on with it

Seems not. Highlights on rte2 at 10.30.

Means a lot more to the FAI though.

And you don't matter to them.

    That was woeful from McClean.

Embarrassing for an international player to not be able to make a simple pass like that.

True x 1000. Is there a cut of the ad revenue heading into Mr Delaney's bank account I wonder?

O'Shea leaves the pitch in an Irish jersey for the last time. Thanks for the memories, John.

I can see another defeat now.

    We've created little.

    1-0 to USA. Wood from a set-piece.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,559 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

    Should have left O'Shea on!

Doyle should have come for that. We need another keeper.

    Crap.

Is anyone else watching on ESPN 2? The English (?) lad has some weird pronounciation. I thought he was saying Bobby Birch when it was Bobby Wood.

Advertising tickets at half time to a game I'm watching is a first for me anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

Am I missing something? Why are they advertising tickets for tonight's game? At half time in, er, tonight's game?

Eir Sport on fire this evening......advertising the Ireland - USA game at half time in the same game!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 619 ✭✭✭Jeju

Ireland will come out with fire in their bellies with intense passionate and progressive controlled play and give the US their green card home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,402 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I've been waiting since September to see Bobby Wood score a goal. Thanks MON.

Has he signed up for next season in Hamburg or where is he moving to???

I find this particularly disappointing as they really aren't very good. Goes to show how bad we are ourselves. McClean has been really poor; he's had several good crossing opportunties which he's either sent straight into the keeper's hands or up into the stands. The options on the bench aren't exactly inspiring either:
Doherty, Judge, Cunningham, Egan, Browne, Horgan, O'Malley, Meyler, Stevens, Arter, Supple, Lenihan.

Hopefully we'll step it up in the second half.

    McClean has been so poor.

    McClean has been so poor.

You can't fault him for endeavour. He just does not have the quality.

It's actually impressive how few crosses McClean gets in by hitting it off the person nearest to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,003 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

McClean has always been so poor.

FYP.. He's been wasteful and ineffective all match :(

I can see this playing out as a 0-1 loss unfortunately

Walters looks like he’d be more at home in one of those ‘Legends XI’ games.

I hope he is sold because he's ****e and a mercenary, but there doesn't look to be any interest so he'll probably stay.

Jesus, this is seriously grim. Where do I go to claim a refund of this last couple of hours?

Woo; An Ireland goal. The American keeper was p1ss poor though.
