In case anyone's interested - I went for a 172 Zoe - delighted with it so far.

Getting well over 300km in Dublin driving (including using the M50 daily). Took her for a 180km spin down the country including motorways and nearly had a quarter tank left! :D

    Best of luck with it.....

And thanks Shefwedfan for recommendations for companies in Ireland - I got a granny cable off them which works a charm too.

Well wear! Would you mind sharing how much you paid for it?

Toll discount is capped at 500 per annumn

So they're giving €500 per year to people around Dublin, but can't knock the €120 per year orad tax off the rest of us?

Any pic's? I must take a Zoe for test drive. I sat into a lovely one that electric auto's had, I never had chance to test it.....

All tolls nationwide are 50% discounted. M50 has a further discount of 75% off peak

But yeah, I agree with your sentiments. For very little extra cost to the tax payer the emissions based motor tax for a zero emissions car should be zero. And all tolls should have been zero too.

Not to please the current EV owners, but purely to attract more people to EVs. Zero motor tax in Ireland, imagine the surge in demand :D

You have to remember not so long ago tax of 600 was standard for a decent car....

I remember paying over 1k per year tax

    120 quid is nothing

I know too well. I've paid maximum motor tax year in year out for many, many years. My last car before the EV was a worthless banger, not maximum motor tax, but the motor tax was €422. Every quarter

The granny cable was €325, I know there was cheaper on ebay but I didn't want to risk compatibility.

The car was ~15% cheaper than new, which is more than I would pay for a similar second hand but it was the best option available. As it happens the gear stick has an issue which is thankfully covered under warranty - so it's not all golden :o

Well worth the test drive, it's a little smaller than the Focus I had before now but it's very nice to drive around. Cruise control on the motorways is very handy too!
