Covering a lot of ground. They have done well

Its a lot like watching Ireland play.

The second half could be tough though. Caulfield will need fresh legs out there.

Sadlier has to come on anyway.

Sickening to concede such a soft goal.

    David James at his worst.

Don't mind losing to a better team but make them fúckin work for it.

Sadlier in for McNamee & McNulty for for both games & Cork could well be in a decent position.

Cork midfield has done very well over the 2 legs.
But as I said they will probably tire now covering so much ground.

Caulfield said a few weeks ago that Sadlier should be called up for Ireland.

Sadlier is wasting his time there.

Theres no doubt Legia are a quality side, but Cork are much better than what theyve given over these 2 legs. Theyve gifted them everyone of their goals. If they want to progress in the EL they'll need to seriously get the finger out.

The goal in the home leg wasn't really a gift. Legia were poor last week and were there for the taking.

Lack of ambition last week was the killer. Tonight it was individual errors.

As a fan of Sadlier, his form has been very patchy for a fair bit now. Needs to apply himself more into games and be much more economic with his shooting. I can understand why he didn't start tonight. Probably should have came on earlier though.

Sadlier will leave Cork after this season.

He will join Rovers,be Duffy's(if he leaves) replacement or somehere in L1 or L2. Caufield just doesn't really trust him.
McNamee has been very poor at Cork. Cork's back 4 & midfield have been good over the 2 legs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,468 ✭✭✭White Horse

Cork played more football in the last 10 minutes than in the preceding 170 minutes of this tie.

Nice to see but too bloody late!

Poor from McCloughlin for the 3rd too deep.

Legia are not the side they were 2 seasons ago.

We have been disappointing over the 2 legs. I knew what the plan was last week but tonight was not good enough especially after we concede.

    Well that was rubbish.

Literally no bright spots to take from either leg.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,468 ✭✭✭White Horse

Cork didn't disgrace themselves but they are not set up to play at this level.

Caulfield will need to rethink his approach for the Europa League 3rd round.

Peno conceded at a time City were on top and creating chances. If they had got a goal back then the last 15 minutes might have been a scramble.

Why didn't City play that way in the home leg or at the start of the away leg?

The performance away in Gent is still Caulfield's high point IMO.

Cork really should have gone for it in the first leg, Legia were not at their sharpest at all. Disappointed tonight as they appeared to be in control at times but just that step below Legia quality wise.

On another note, there appears to have been a cracking game in Wales. Good old Total Network Solutions almost came back from a 5-0 deficit but ultimately lost 5-4.

Who's scoring goals in his place though?

Disappointing result from Cork but it was a tough draw in fairness, didn't see tonights game but always felt Cork are not well suited to playing in Europe. Is there any indication who they could potentially get in the EL or is it an open draw for the third round?

Might be a bit clearer after 2nd round draw but afaik 3rd round draw is next week, maybe Monday so will find out then.

He wasn't scoring that many from open play anyway, despite a large amount of shots. He just needs to fine tune parts of his game and he'll reach the potential a lot think he has. We are short of an alternative forward up there though, Cummins too often drifts out to the wings and isn't a central presence enough, a quicker striker would suit McNamee, Sadlier etc as well.

Looking at the teams knocked out of the CL tonight, I think City would have no problem getting to the 3rd round of the EL anyway. ( Am I correct in this - City would enter a confined draw with the other sides knocked out tonight?)

No they get a buy so will play teams knocked out in next 2nd round. Some winnable games but not many if they go so negative again

They got a bye, but I don’t think they would have any trouble getting to the 3rd looking at the possible opposition.

Think the 3rd round is open draw, or is it confined to the champions league sides again ?

Champions route the whole way. So for 3rd round

The ten Champions Path losers of the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round (seeded), and the ten Champions Path winners of the second qualifying round (unseeded).

Cork would be unseeded as they would be seen to be a winner of the 2nd round via their bye.

Then playoff is the 10 winners of this round plus the 6 dropping down. Not sure how the seeding works for that. Id guess the 6 dropping + the next 2 highest ranked teams

I think the champions league path so will be all Champions league sides right to the Playoff round.

City will be playing 1 of 10 losing teams from the CL QR2 so more than likely losers from these games :

Winner of Astana / Sutjeska V Midtjylland

    Ludogorets V Videoton

Kukësi v Winner of Olympia Ljubljana / Qarabag

    CFR Cluj v Malmö

Dinamo Zagreb v Hapoel Beer Sheva

    Red Star Belgrade v Suduva

    BATE Borisov v HJK Helsinki

Shkendija v Winner of Torpedo Torpedo Kutaisi / Sheriff Tiraspol

Legia Warsaw v Winner of Spartak Trnava / Zrinjski Mostar

Winner of Alashkert / Celtic v Winner of Valur Reykjavík / Rosenborg

Well beaten last night, the gulf in class was there to be seen.

Europa League is split just like the Champions League

Main Path is the teams who Qualified directly into the Europa League from there finishing position or cup wins.

Champions or Losers path is for those who drop into the Europa League from the Champions League and goes from 2nd Qualifying Round until the play off round.

Losers of the 2nd Qualifying Round in the Champions League will be seeded and winners from the Europa League losers path will be unseeded

Teams will be kept in each path not crossing over at any stage.

So for the Group Stage of the Europa League it is made up of this for the 48 spots
17 already in the Group Stage
    13 from the main path
    8 from Champions/Losers path
6 losers from the Champions League Play-off round

Draw for the 3rd Round will be on Monday so Cork will find out then which tie to watch in the 2nd round

No as they are in different parts of the draw even if UEFA did allow teams from the same country to play each other

Quite a few teams there that Cork would have a good chance against, although quite a few tricky ties too even more so if a weaker side pulls off a shock.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,255 ✭✭✭joeysoap

With the way the CL drop down operates I think the bye to the 3RD round actually might have cost City €240k. There are no teams in that 'side' of the draw the City could not beat in the 2nd round, and quite a few they are capable of beating in the 3rd round.

    now onto more important matters

    C'mon the Town

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,589 ✭✭✭Awesomeness

As it stand Cork are in by far the best place to make group stages

    Astana Kazakhstan 1 Denmark Midtjylland
Ludogorets Razgrad Bulgaria 2 Hungary Vidi
    Kukësi Albania 3 Azerbaijan Qarabağ
CFR Cluj Romania 4 Sweden Malmö FF
Dinamo Zagreb Croatia 5 Israel Hapoel Be'er Sheva
Red Star Belgrade Serbia 6 Lithuania Sūduva Marijampol
BATE Borisov Belarus 7 Finland HJK
Shkëndija Republic of Macedonia 8 Moldova Sheriff Tiraspol
Legia Warsaw Poland 9 Slovakia Spartak Trnava
    Celtic Scotland 10 Norway Rosenborg

Would expect them to beat all these teams who id expect to lose in the next round. If they avoid Astana, Rosenberg, BE'er sheva they should be making a playoff and will have a decent chance there too

Great result but what could have been.

If we had been better in Brandywell game, had not lost our main grafter after 90secs of game.

But lads did great tonight, fair play to them.
