Fire extinguishers - checking them!

Hey guys,

Just listening to a fire safety piece with Dublin fire brigade on Newstalk. There is a fire extinguisher in the kitchen of my rented apartment which has been there for years - quite possibly up to 11 years. Do they need to be checked every few years or anything I wonder?

I presume they do and I spotted these couple of articles:

There is a smoke alarm but no fire blanket - just the extinguisher.

Not just checked. Some need to be recharged.
