Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I'm trying to get a copy of a lease from a management agent and they're saying they don't have to provide it to me. I was hoping GDPR my help but they claim the only data they hold under GDPR is my name and address?

The back story is I live in a mixed development of houses and apartments. There is a single company managing both and the costs are shared with a loading for the apartments. Right now lighting is not being fixed despite the majority of houses having paid the fees but the apartments are behind so funds froncone are proping up the other. I'm trying to find out what I'm obliged to contribute to. The management agents just repeat the same story that its all in the lease I signed 12 years ago but I've no record of it.
How could the management company only have name and address? They would have to have a record of payments or nonpayments as the case may be going back at least six years. They would also have to have copies of invoices sent for management fees, including reminder letters.
If somebody puts your name in a telephone directory you are entitled to a copy of it, subject to it being redacted in respect of the other entries in the same document which contain personal data of other individuals.

The management "agent" say they only have name & address. You can ask the same question again quoting GDPR but if they only have a name & address then thats all you'll get from them. GDPR isn't magic legislation. It doesn't create new data that you don't have. There could be new agents. Old agents may not be sharing the data to new agents. There could be lots of reasons

From what I can make out the "agents" are separate to the management company. Maybe the management company have more/ different data. All I know is if the only data held under GDPR is name & address then that's all op can expect.

I'll say it again. Everyone is getting hung up on GDPR. OP doesn't even know 100 percent if he ever got a lease. The simplest route is forget about GDPR & go down the old fashioned route. Find out from his bank exactly what deeds, lease etc they are holding. He might even find out that he doesn't have a lease. Stranger things have happened

OP which you are waiting you could ask your neighbours. The ones that seem to own houses the same as you. If they have a lease then you will most likely find it to be the same as your lease. If they don't & never had a lease you'll find that it's most likely the same for you

Got on to the bank today and it will be 28 days to process the request. The agents have been the same since the beginning and are in some way related to the original developer as the registered offices of both are the same. I submitted the request to both the agent and the omc via the agent but got the same response both times just my name and address back. I was hoping GDPR might get me a result from them as I was completely unaware the bank might have a copy so hopefully they can produce something. For what its worth I spoke to several neighbours and none of them recall a lease but its a long time ago so let's see what I get back from the bank!
