Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pienaar won his team 4 points. They could have easily settled for 3 given the time on the clock.

Well that try makes the second half very interesting. Edinburgh been quite impressive especially the scrum.

That's a try for me. Careless by Edinburgh.

Don't know about careless. That's a monster Montpellier pack. Once they retain possession in the 22, they're very hard to stop. Edinburgh were right to try and kill it and concede the penalty.

9 to 7 at half time doesn't reflect the play. Edinburgh will be raging with themselves.

Final scrum after JdP went off looked very different and Edinburgh were creaking before Mata got it away.

If Montpellier get the scrum sorted, they've every chance of sneaking this. Edinburgh haven't really got much on the scoreboard for the amount of decent ball they've had in clear space.

Montpellier discipline not great though and with 7 penalties on the board against them already, they'll need to sort that out.

Looking a the stats at half time (didn’t see much of the first half) and Monty seemed to have the upper hand in many aspects. Edinburgh have had to make nearly twice the number of tackles. Limit the penalties and they can def win this.

Edinburgh are very, very predictable when they spin it. They're trying fairly creative plays but they're too slow and inaccurate to make them slick or difficult to read. Montpellier are comfortably reading them and shutting it down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

Was that not the most obvious case of an early drive?

EDIT: scratch that, it was really good timing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

How are these people paid commentators/pundits? The Edinburgh scrum was obviously far less comfortable the moment JdP went off. They haven't had the same dominance in a single scrum since.

Cotter deserves cretdit for making a big call.

10 minutes of minor implosion from Edinburgh. 10 points conceded, find themselves behind in a game they had been very comfortable in and try to get out of it by sending the restart dead.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Good cover by Pienaar but no way all the chasers were onside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Pienaar is such a class act.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

What on earth is the TMO/assistants role here? Montpellier are literally 1-2m offside at first tackler behind the referees back and no call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

Edinburgh's attacking game plan seems to rely very heavily on the other team just missing tackles.

Could go down to wire. Edinburgh surely have a try in them yet

This is an awful game, shame as so much rides on it. Don’t see either of these sides going any further then QF if they get through.

Relief for Edinburgh with that try.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

How are they not going blindside?!

    Mata you greedy sod.

Deserved try. Been impressed with the Edinburgh wingers. Livewires tonight but not tested defensively. Big conversion to come to make it a 2 score game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

What was JDP doing there? Abandoning the blindside when there were Edinburgh men there!?

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

    Cracking kick.

So Monty have decided to throw in the towel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

Thats probably that. Typical French away from home performance, unless something miraculous happens.

Not at all. Pienaar is 35 years old and not the player he was regardless. He's done.

Right time to change him when they need to score.

No it's not. They named their strongest side. They were 9-0 down and came back to be in front in the second half.

The game is still in the balance too. This is the opposite of a typical French away performance.

Edinburgh are a good side. This is potentially their 7th win on the trot and they deserve credit for it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Edinburgh need to kill the ball and concede a penalty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Discipline Edinburgh! Don't concede a penalty and maybe they'll knock on!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Edinburgh were stretched there. Lucky Montpellier knocked on. They were looking dangerous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

    Okay
But you can hardly say this is a good Montpelier performance?

There goes Munster's hope of a home quarter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

That should be a penalty the other way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

And that should be that anyway. Montpellier have been pretty poor all told.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

    Ah Johan.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

    Okay

It's the completely typical Montpellier performance. If you take them on and don't lie down in defence, the mistakes come. They're hard to break down and hard to stop.

I wouldn't call it a good performance but I wouldn't say it's bad either. Edinburgh are ahead because they're a good side and deserve to be ahead. They have managed to hold out Montpellier on their own line and, most importantly, WP Nel has been sensational in the scrum winning them multiple penalties which is probably the difference in the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

    Ah Johan.

Had it. Wasn't fingertips at all. Just needed to catch the ball.

Can see Edinburgh scoring again now as Montpellier realise they're done now.

Newcastle have just scored two tries in the space of 2 mins to retake the lead and bring my accumulator for the weekend back from the dead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

    Talk about butchering a try.

Not sure which was worse, the aim on the pass or the decision to pass before committing his man.

It's okay, molloy. I forgive you.

I'm bewildered why you're apologising to me but it's about time, in fairness.

I don't think they have anothe gear. They do have some players to come back who will get them over the gain line a bit more consistently but I think they lack accuracy in attack. How many passes did we see the man outside taking it above his head or checking his run?

Lads like Scott, Bennett and, possibly most importantly, John Barclay are set to be back in the next couple of months.

    Delighted for Edinburgh

And it puts Leinster and Glasgow through.

Ulster now need only an lbp to join them.
