Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. What about the rest of them? Racing are obviously going to get the Sunday and I would imagine Saracens and BT will push pretty hard for the other Saturday game.

Leinster on the Friday would be a dream. I love Friday night games.

Don't mind that at all, if that's that. Had already booked flights to Edinburgh for the Friday evening. Wasn't sure Edinburgh game would be the Sat afternoon with Hearts game then. Thought it might be swapped with Glasgow match with Rangers v Celtic on the Sunday. Just got to wait for it to be confirmed officially.

I always feel like these shortlists come out too soon. I know six games have been played already, but there are still three rounds of the tournament left. At least wait until after the quarterfinals so you've a better picture.

Perfect. Atmosphere will be cracking for the all Irish affair on a Saturday night.

I think players can be added after the semis too

That's why it's not a shortlist, but a longlist that will be reduced to a shortlist of 5 after the semis.

Ah sure it's alright the Ulster team bus will still be stuck at the border by the time the Toulouse match kicks off

Why does it take so long to make these arrangements???????

Surely it's not that difficult to figure out!

Would have thought with the 1 broadcaster it might have been quicker but still need to decide order of games I guess. French game likely the Sunday. Will hopefully find out soon!

They want to book flights etc.?

tv, venue availability in some cases, deciding order of games,

It shouldn't take that long, and you know it you just need to get your speak in. All teams would know there venue, and bt and don't need 5 days to decide whether Munster should play on the friday evening or Saturday morning and it took them 5 minutes to know Leinster Ulster where prime time Saturday and Racing Toulouse were the Sunday

Right, so what difference does an hour or two or even a day or two make to that?

Some venues are shared with other sports and there can be police etc who will need to know just like soccer/other sports.

Yeah you're right, it's not like travel pricing is time sensitive.

People want to be the first ones out of the gate to book flights and hotels before they can be gouged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

And people travelling for rugby are unlikely to only ones flying / staying in a city on any given weekend.

    🤪

Right, so what difference does an hour or two or even a day or two make to that?

price for Saturday morning flight increased from about 80 yesterday to 240 today when first talk of Saturday afternoon game appeared

some people will await for confirmation, some will gamble

    Yeah, I am right.

If the games are announced at 10am, the flights and hotels are more expensive by 1015.

If the games are announced at 11am, the flights are more expensive by 1115.

And so on, so on. The effect is the same regardless of when the times are released. It's easier to just assume it's a huge conspiracy but that's the reality.

So yeah, no point stressing. If you wait until the times are announced, you've already missed the boat to a large extent.

    12.45?!

Does Murrayfield need a helping hand with having an even more poxy atmosphere?!

This is sort of my point. The later the times are announced, the more people will pull the trigger early and try to predict it making it harder for the people who are waiting for the times.

I'm not endorsing that idea. I'm one of those who tries to predict it and takes the hit if it doesn't come off. But it's not completely illogical.

There are some people hoping to book the second it comes out and try to beat the rush of casuals once it makes the Journal.ie or the Irish Times website.

Its the 3 on Saturday that has caused the problem

all for TV and not clashing with the soccer as usual.

They should have just gone for Friday Night imo

I would imagine television had a big say. I can't think that Edinburgh would want that slot. A half empty stadium with all of their fans sober and quiet...I don't think any home side would want that slot, to be honest.

yeah I mentioned TV, it is the primary concern, people actually going have been taken for granted for years

Some talk about Edinburgh encouraging families now to attend given timeframe!

Have Sale v Connacht match the Friday night. Worchester v Harlequins Sat night. La Rochelle Bristol 1.45, Clermont v Northampton Sun night. Looks like they're avoiding clashes with Challenge Cup games too

Munster had a similar slot vs Toulouse a few years ago if I remember rightly, far from ideal but we had the benefit of knowing it'd be a sell out.

oh sure, any reasonable size place would sell out given travelling support

its just the issue of Murrayfield
