    Bird singing outside..

    Small clock ticking quietly..

    all else silent

    And you?

I can hear computer keys tapping, children playing, building work, the odd voice, gates closing.

The cat meowing because I had the audacity to offer a cheap version of his cat biscuits

The goldfinch Mammy and Daddy calling the baby to hurry up and finish his breakfast

And the still golden silence of my house while Missy Chatterbox is in playschool

    The dishwasher
    A siren
    Traffic faintly in the distance
    Dog barking
    Birds singing
    Clock ticking

The capricious whispers of the Morrigan.
Calling me to epic and sanguinary combat.
The earth will drink my enemies blood this day.

Actually, its just the gentle hum of an efficient aircon unit.

    Close one there.

The odd, occasional, minor rattle of a door
    Silence overlaid with tinnitus.

I work in an office, sitting near a guy with possibly the most infuriatingly aggravating laugh you will ever experience. It's like a cross between the crying girl scout in Dodgeball and that laughing alien next to Lando when the Death Star explodes.

So right now I'm blaring Blink 182's All the Small Things.

    Birds twitter, laptop fan hums,
stomach rumbles quietly as lunchtime draws near
    faraway, silage is cut.

(On reflection, that could be a rather poor attempt at a haiku!)

Don't be hasty. There might yet be a opening in which to shoehorn in a gripe about state expenditure and high personal taxation at some juncture.

Ah yes, the constant high pitch noise is so ever present in my life I don't even hear it anymore.

    rattling and rumbling
desk chair squeaks, as keyboard clatters.

    Well, I tried.

Hahah yes, I recently figured out that...no...that is probably not the world's tiniest mosquito ever-present beside my ear, but more likely tinnitus. Thankfully, it is relatively minor :)

    Only a bird chirping.

If I were to open my front door, I'd hear a neighbour's two terriers barking at me, which I have translated as "Poison us!".

I've been living here for 45 years, and ye have been here about a year, lads. This is my land!!!

2 year old snoring in his buggy, power tools being used for repairs in the park behind us and the beep of the microwave telling me lunch is ready.

Birds chirping. River flowing. An occasional car.

Tinnitus :( Dogs are asleep, or outside. Not a sound to be heard, but the tinnitus in my right ear.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,841 ✭✭✭Squatter

    River flowing.

Lucky you! - my boundary stream (or "ditch" as my neighbour unromantically calls it!) dried up completely last weekend! First time in the 10 years that I've lived here that it has gone completely dry.

Oh no. And it's so lovely on a warm day to listen to the water flowing.

If anyone remembers the high-pitched whine a TV tube would make from 2 rooms away, that is what I am constantly hearing.
Funnily enough, I couldn't hear a TV tube anymore, age and rock music have cost me quite a few kHz off my hearing range... :D
