Rough rough, tricky crosswinds and potentially carnival greens.

    Who do we fancy?

Spieth for me, think it will suit him.

Think you won't go far wrong with Spieth Charlie. These US opens tend to be a ball striking contest rather than a putting contest. Spieth has been great tee to green this year and has putted terribly.

Think Adam Scott could get on a roll. If he could putt averagely I think he would be knocking on about 4 majors. So with that in mind I think he could be going a bit under the radar.

Should be a great tournament anyway. Course looks great again.

Be nice to see Lowry contend also.

I mentioned it in another thread, but I have a small few quid on Lowry. Have a feeling he could click this week.

Other than him, Fleetwood & Rose.

    Speith is a good bet,

Mickelson needs this one, so at 30/1 is not bad each way

    Rose could do well

    Outsiders:

Brandt Snedeker is playing well and getting back to good golf after his injury

Jason Dufner has been in the top 10 at the US Open a few times

And most will also add Lowry and how about Thorbjorn Oleson..125/1?

    DT

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Mickelson wayyyy too up-and-down for me. Can shoot a 64 and the next day shoot a 77. Don't like 30s on him at all.

Francesco Molinari could be in with a chance, 1st and second in his last 2 starts 2nd in last years PGA championship and he's striking the ball well at the moment.

Agreed, he normally hits it as straight as an arrow and with the rough up that will be key.

Lowry is streaky with his driver so if he keeps the ball in a decent position, his short game should keep him out of trouble.

Will the winning score be a + or - this year? I'm going for +4

DJ could destroy the (any) course if he keeps hitting them as long and as straight as last week...

He leaked a good few Sunday while not under any pressure from the field, if he does it here he won't get away with it.

Also, nobody has won the US Open having won the week before as well.

like Rory said last year...if you cant hit these fairways, then you should not be here..we all know what happened then.

World Cup starts...US Open starts...Looking forward to this weekend.

Rough looks nuts, hope it's a low winning score

Been a quick year since Mickelson was hoping thunderstorms would delay his tee time

Ugh I actually thought today was Wednesday and this was starting tomorrow

If its true that the fairways are pretty much twice as wide as they were when it was last held here, I'd saw that must bring in some of the bombers into the equation, DJ, Koepka, Bubba etc. Possibly, even Tiger could be a factor if the fairways are 42yds wide as has been mentioned.

I'm thinking a showdown between Rory and Speith for most of Sunday, with Justin Thomas finishing an hour earlier with a clubhouse score that beats both of them.

Dont think 40 yard wide fairways will be enough for Tiger unfortunately. His misses are starting to become a bit less frequent but theyre still wild beyond belief when they happen. Set up will favour the likes of DJ, McIlroy and Thomas who are easily as long and longer than Tiger but rarely hit it as badly offline as he does.

Hard to look beyond DJ after last week tbh but Id expect a few big names to challenge. Should be an exciting tournament, certainly a chance for the shorter hitters to contend with the linksy style of the course.

Rose would be my pick. Hopefully McIlroy and lowry play well to keep an Irish interest.

Kind of fancy Webb Simpson to do well. Previous winner and finding form after taking the Players Championship.

Can't see a championship record round being hit this time ALA JT last year. That rough above ^^^ may bring the salad tongs :D

    The rough looks daft.

    The rough looks daft.

Depends on how far off the fairway and “normal” rough it is....plenty of rough like that on plenty of courses once you’re a good bit off the fairway or near course perimeter...

I don't gamble much apart from the lotto to be honest (damm numbers better come up this week!!) but I fancy Spieth for this one. Hits it straight and if the putter is working, he'll be in the mix.
