Bit of a long shot but I'm looking for any pictures of The Clare Manor Hotel which I think was in Raheny. My parents had their wedding reception there and I'd love to find a picture of it for their 50th anniversary this year.
I'd be really grateful if anyone could help.

I think the Clare Manor Hotel was on the site where Clarehall Shopping Centre is now. That's Coolock or Darndale not Raheny.

The hotel was where Tesco Clarehall is now situated.
I think it was previously Claregrove House: http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,721026,740443,11,7

Can't find any pics online though.

Back in the day a lot of now Donaghmede was known as Raheny. The pillars on the right and left when heading to the Clare Hall roundabout are the old entrance to the hotel.

Thank you all for your replies. I haven't been able to find any photos at all online so I'm hoping someone with local knowledge might know of any archives or maybe photographers where I might find a pic.

You are probably better off joining various Facebook groups for the surrounding areas such as Raheny, Clare Hall and Donaghmede. Post up your query and someone with local knowledge should get in touch.

If you do manage to find a photo, could please post a link here? I would love to see a photo of the hotel. Thanks

Thanks, I'm not from Dublin so didn't know where to start but I'll look for those groups. I will post a pic here if I can find one 🙂

    This might get you started:

The only remaining building in the area is the Ice House, it survived when the hotel burnt down and is now a listed building.

Entrance to Clare Manor Hotel was on the Malahide Rd, not the pillars at Clarehall. I know because I was there a few times. It had a long driveway, so hotel itself was where the houses in Clarehall are now alright, behind Tesco, as it was well in off the Malahide Rd, but the entrance was definitely on the Malahide Rd.

I know it's not great quality, it's from the Irish Newspaper Archive.

edit: Oops, i figure the parents' anniversary is long gone by now. Didn't realise this was a zombie thread.

Sure it refers to Louisa Emily, only daughter to JEV Vernon of Clontarf Castle

There were photographers in the Clare Manor doing photos in key rings and that sort of stuff. Cannot remember the names of any of them but I'll check with a friend. Meanwhile here's one of Joe Cuddy on stage at the Clare Manor

It might be worth contacting this guy, his father Frank Gavin was a well known photographer at that time

More random stuff ( might be of interest to anyone wondering about the transition of the area from hotel in fields to apartments and shopping centre )

That has to be the longest time lag in a court case that I've ever heard of.

I seem to remember another hotel along there, The Camelot. It was a small operation but had a function room for "chicken suppers" etc Probably gone since the late 80s

Would it be possible to use this photo in a video, to be put up on YouTube?

Its from a newspaper archive, you would have to ask the paper - or justify fair use - rather than asking someone who found it in the archive.

Here's another - this time from the Evening Herald of March 19th 1970 - if that helps asking Independent Newspapers for permission. I couldn't find that other one I posted to get the date of it, though they could well have been taken the same day.
