Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If I was Puel I'd be kicking lumps out of his penalty takers there. Fckin clowns.
They were awful penalties. Sterling's was comical as well, but at least we scored a couple of them.

Zinchenko might have had the only good one of the entire shootout, Jesus slipped and Gundogan's almost definitely should have been saved :pac:

That might be the worst penalty shootout I've ever seen.

Can't have been worse than Liverpool v Man City League Cup final.

True. Re. Gundogan's one maybe being saved though, you could say the same for Leicester's opening penalty (the only one they actually scored, can't remember who it was). Aro got a hand to it.

surely it should be penalty taking 101 that if you're not getting much power in the kick you have to place it somewhere difficult for the keeper, and not a couple of feet off the ground, half way between him and the post

Penos were brutal. I can't understand Leicester playing a weak team in the qf of a cup. Surely only 2 games away from a final you go for it. Saving players for league games where they will almost certainly end up mid table anyway doesn't make sense to me.
Put out your full side, then possibly get Burton in the sf and what a chance to get to a Wembley final & get a trophy.

    *pedant alert*

    Three games - two-leg semi-finals

What a massive achievement for Burton Albion to reach the semi final. Beating Villa, Forest, Burnley and Boro along the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

One of the PL sides is getting a buy to the final anyway when they draw Burton.

    Great result for them though.

That would have been a lovely counter-attacking goal from Spurs if Sissoko had been able to finish.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Arsenal need to try clone Torreira. Think the game is passing Guendouzi by. Centre back options right now are appalling with all the injuries.
Ozil not getting in the squad is telling at how Emery views him right now.
Ramsay with an idiotic backheel attempt there in a great position.

Dele Alli is such a class footballer.

Spurs through after a deserved victory. Bossed Arsenal in every department and scored two gorgeous goals.

    Draw coming up.

Piers Morgan is doing the semi-final draw.

Up there with his mate Trump finally.

See, besides the pointlessness of an extra game it seriously reduces the chances of a giant killing. Even if city send out a group of kids in the first leg and it goes to **** and they end up getting beaten, they can just bring the big boys for the 2nd leg and hammer them.

He was great for both goals too!

Ya, the 2 legged semi finals are pointless as well.

With the FA cup getting rid of 5th round replays, the league cup should really do away with the 2 legged semi finals. Its an extra game in the busiest period of the season right after new years.

    Teams:
Tottenham XI: Gazzaniga; Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose; Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen; Alli, Son; Kane.

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Barkley; Hudson-Odoi, Hazard, Willian.

Both teams have named strong sides. Hopefully means a good game. I'll say Tottenham to take a one goal lead into the second leg.

VAR being called upon here as Kepa brings down Kane.

    And it's a penalty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

    Only a yellow though?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Yeah, looks like a clear penalty there, at least from the VAR review.

He looked offside to me, even the lines - but i'd need to see it again.

Roughly a minute and a half to decide, and it is now 1-0.

What did Azpilicueta hope to achieve by standing that close to the referee while the VAR review was taking place?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I'd say that's VAR working pretty much perfectly, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Solid pen from Kane. 1-0 Tottenham. Thought the game was a bit flat before that so hopefully this livens it up.

He looked well onside to be fair, definitely a penalty as well.

Azpilicueta should be getting booked there also. They've used video evidence and he is still in the ref's face moaning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,019 ✭✭✭davycc

Var works perfectly this time definite penalty for spurs

That's something that really needs to be nipped in the bud when VAR is introduced, players having a go at refs while it's gone to VAR. I've know idea what he was even arguing about after the penalty was awarded. VAR worked perfectly there.

Yes, ignore me. Somehow missed Azpilicueta, confused him for a Spurs player. :o

Agreed. The ref didn't make the decision, so it's pointless and stupid to have a go at him for it.

Yes, genuine attempt to play ball inside the box is only a yellow. Has been for 2 years now.

He's the captain, they're allowed to moan longer than everyone else, even in rugby which is held up as some of kind of gold standard for on field behaviour.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.
