Why? Both those players you mentioned need game time in their legs after injuries. No better game to do it in.

Just looking at the Diaz and Sancho situations and what the future holds for City prospects.

Blitz the Tie early. Other leg a formality. They can rest whoever they want for it.

The right way to approach the cup tie.

Would you stop, city have 2 world class players for every position, there isn’t and probably never has been a team with their strength and depth before.

Plays strong team " he should play kids"

Plays kids " not taking the cup seriously"

    No pleasing everyone.

9-0. Will they get 10 tonight?

Is there away goal in the league cup nowadays? Burton could be in trouble if they concede early at home.

Bit of a farce. Surely City could have played a couple of more youngsters instead of KDB and Silva, still would have trounced them.

Burton will come back in the second leg...home fans and all that

I would guess you'll see a shadow side out in the second leg. The right approach from Pep tonight; get the tie secured tonight and rotate at the Pirelli.

Yes, to an extent, but there are certain positions they really do need their key men. Aguero and Fernandinho especially.

Tonight's plan was exactly the right call - make the second match a non event so they can do whatever they want with zero risk of not making the final.

Financial doping on display for all to see. More of a freak show than a football match in the end.

Just the 9 goals for city then.

Ah in fairness Burton are the 9th best team in League 1 right now....

A freak show, yes, but only because the draw happened to conspire to a team way out of its depth getting this far.

There was such a thing as having a bit of compassion for a lower league opponent back in the day.. City have shown over the last two games that this doesn't exist in their world.
No need to shred them to bits like that, it doesn't help anybody. Once they got five up they should just have shut up shop and passed the ball around imo.

I think it helps city. Boost of confidence. Good atmosphere in the dressing room and a message to any side they face that they'll take them seriously.

I dunno about a confidence boost to be honest... but can't hurt anyway.

Wolves will be a much bigger test on Monday.

Pass the ball around for half an hour?

Yeh true boost of confidence may be a stretch but an ego boost for the likes of Jesus scoring four.

Also, the fans got to witness a high scoring game throughout. Opposed to City scoring 3/4 in the first 30 mins then nothing for the remainder.

They would have scored a dozen if they went for the jugular and played their strongest XI.

Hahah, what!? What about the fans who came to see a football game? You think they will be coming back if the next time a team goes sup 4-0 they stop trying to create chances? Give over

It’s disrespectful to ease up, you’re playing sport, you try your best, that is the essence of professionalism.

The complete opposite is the case.

If a team eases up and stops playing properly, that would be the ultimate insult and totally patronising to the other team.

Being generous to the poster, I don't think he seriously thought his comment through before posting it. Just aimlessly playing keepball in the middle third is not showing respect to the opposition in any way.

I think city are great example of how a club should be run- take their selection of away kit colour for example, great visible colour palette. Not your invisible coloured kit that was used elsewhere in the city before. That would be far more damaging to the teams performance than pitch and weather conditions.

EFL Cup has had some games through the comp on a Thursday night but yes as City and Spurts played yesterday neither would have played no Tuesday night.

City could have played right after the Huddersfield game and it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference to the outcome of the 2nd leg. :o

    There is no away goals.

So say Chelsea win by 1 goal on Thursday the game will go to pens after 90 mins

14.5 In the Semi-Final ties, if the aggregate score is level at the end of the second game no extra time shall be played and the tie shall be decided by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with procedures as approved by IFAB.

The away goals rule will not apply at all.

No extra time either. Ties will now go straight to penalties if the scores remain level after two legs.

C'mon Burton - the rules mean 10 goals could now get you through to penalties. Nothing to lose - go for it!
