Eastern coasts weren't particularly hot either during June 1887 when the 33.3c record was reached. Phoenix Park's maximum of the month then fell on the 17th, not the 26th, with 26.2c. It recorded 24.3c on the 26th.

No hard feelings lads but I love to her people in the east complaing it's not warm enough or too breezey while the west is baking.

What's the best time to see sunset tonight? I live in a hole so will have to drive up the mountain to see it

The temperatures are often pegged back in Dublin and other coastal areas. Nothing new there! And the breeze is lovely! :P

That east breeze is a bit stiff at times but with these temperatures it mostly feels refreshing. If the temperatures were a bit lower it would feel quite cool, especially with the low humidities. Currently 24.6C here in Glasnevin.

26 degrees at Knock at 6pm with a humidity of just 19% and dew point of -1 .

There is a nice breeze here but not lowering temps at all at all. If anything, temp is on the rise again.

This is excellent news. The sea breeze is certainly penetrating further inland today and despite the 26C max here in Dublin 15, there is a bit of relief in the shade with it. And I hope it continues all week.

Why anyone hopes for unbroken sunshine and 28C+ is beyond me, this is gorgeous east coast beach weather for Irish tolerances. Yes, broken records are interesting and notable, but is there really much of an experiential difference between a dead heat of 29C and 33 or 34 if it happens?

    Agreed!

Why the heat haters get so oppressed the once in a blue moon it comes around and the want for it to be cooler is mind boggling.

Personally I find it really uncomfortable. I enjoy a blue sky & sunny day as much as anyone, but this kind of heat is something I'm not wired for. I'm looking forward to it dipping back down to 20c or so, with a mild breeze preferably. Suppose it doesn't help that I'm a fan of colder more dynamic weather :o

Again the sensor seems to be acting up. It was reporting a dewpoint of 20 °C at 17:30 and then 0 °C just 30 mins later.

28.8c reached in Athenry today according to Gerry Smurf.

This may have been posted earlier, but here's a link to the weather map for 26 June 1887:

    http://www.wetterzentrale.de/reanalysis.php?map=1&model=noaa&var=1&jaar=1887&maand=06&dag=26&uur=1800&h=0&tr=360&nmaps=24#mapref

once there you can see the sequence and get a reconstructed 850 mb map (not real observations, same for 500 mb heights on this surface map)

It’s 9:56 in Dublin. Just to be safe. 10:04 in Belfast.

If you are further south knock off a minute or so

Might be interesting to note that the end of May 1887 had a Scandinavian block, just like May 2018.

Comparison of May 25th in both years.

Max at Shannon today 29.3. Oak Park 28.7. Would have been nice to see what Gurteen got. It was at 27.7 at 1800 and 26.4 at 1900.

You people in the west can keep your heat. I'm very happy with what we have here in Dublin. In fact, if we had something like 28/29c I'd be less satisfied than I am now.

I can’t get my images to post .

It did feel hot today. Currently 26.5C, high was 30.8C.

ECM 12z is an improvement on its 0z run. Still quite warm to hot out to Monday 2nd July. The Atlantic wants to cool things down dramatically and it does so on this run but no real unsettled weather. The Azores High remains very strong to the southwest. Baby steps! The temperature maps on Weather.us still show 29c as the maximum for the next few days. We know that they have been off by 1 or 2 degrees yesterday and today.

Pity they don't have official temp recording in kilkenny any more. Car was reading 40 in the shade today at lunchtime.
