The display in your opel/Vauxhall could do with a new bulb..

    Why?
It’s clearly a shadow on the display caused by the sunshine!!!

Seriously, never? Jaysus, some of yizzer very wet behind the ears. :D Used to love sticking my fingers into the melted tar as a kid.

Used to be only the joins and strips. That road looks ****e anyway with little stone or gravel, whatever the technical term, in it.

The forecasted temps on met.ie have been out by 6C or so in Galway.

Current temp officially 24C but feels warmer. The forecast was 31C.

I’ve seen it all over the road before. There’s are a lot of terrible roads in Ireland!

No, it's just warm - not even close to what i would call hot.

Merciless is 47° C at 04:30 in the morning and you flush the urinal and a wave of heat is given off from the water - which would normally be cold but is hot.

How people can choose to live in Dubai is beyond me.

Because everything is air conditioned in Dubai and its infrastructure is incredible. You can go from the airport to Dubai mall without ever even stepping foot outside.

Hotels, apartments, public transport, malls, stores etc are all built to provide shelter from the heat in Dubai whereas here in Ireland nothing is.

Looking very much like the heatwave is going to go on for some time yet on the latest models. Any thought of rain at the weekend consigned to the dustbin.

How long would this spell have to last before we have real drought worries?

Where is this "official" temp you're quoting? Athenry was 30C at 1600, NUIG station is 29.3 (60 min delay), Moycullen is 30.2, www.galwaycityweather.com is 30.8. It's absolutely roasting out.

It's met.ie android app. Don't know the source station. It seems to have been under reporting all week?

Would anyone be able to explain why in Ireland the hottest temperatures always seem to be recorded in the late afternoon at around 4pm or even later?

I have travelled to lots of countries around the world and have noticed that the highest temperatures in some other countries tend to peak earlier in the day. Nothing scientific to support this, just an observation that could well be BS.

Also, 25 degrees in Ireland always feels so much hotter than the same temperature in other countries but that may be psychological.

I always understood that the temp peak in the afternoon is because the ground has been heated since after sunrise and in the afternoon it starts to release it's heat much like a storage radiator, and this combined with the already heated atmosphere, drives the temp near ground level to a daily peak sometime around 4 -5pm in mid-summer.

That's probably a bit simplistic but I think it's something like that. Others will be able to explain more precisely.

29.1C is my high probably for the day, still don't know what happened yesterday that it went to 30.8C, maybe it was fairly accurate.

There is a station on the Tuam Rd as well (Riverside) at it is reporting 28.4c at the moment. I would imagine that places such as Salthill and Knocknacarra would be cooler due to a sea breeze.

Not very often we get an hourly report with 4 stations reporting 30 deg.C, so it is best it is saved here for the records!

So? Nothing to do with your ideas or opinions or tolerances etc.

It is I said.merciless which means it shows no mercy. not to old folk with skin problems and breathing issues.

Over and out from me on this in this merciless heat here.

Exactly Grace. This is Ireland. People have to work and partake in the daily grind. Yes, holiday destinations are usually much warmer but you have the luxury of lounging around by a pool all day, or a beach, or an air conditions hotel or store.
