This weather is unbearable, it's just too hot to enjoy.

I'm in North Kildare and the max was just over 29c today. I've been outdoors since early afternoon, either sunbathing or else working in the garden. Personally, I've found it to be extremely pleasant today with the nice warmth and lovely breeze from time to time. The extremely low humidity is the icing on the cake as I've barely broken a sweat all day. Very stuffy inside the house as all the windows and doors have been kept closed all day, apart from a couple of velux windows upstairs. Once it cools down a bit outside, I'll open up a heap of windows and allow cooler air to circulate. Bedroom temperature at bedtime has been in the mid to high 20's for the past few nights however I'm pretty much acclimatized to it now and have no issues getting to sleep.

Is that rain I see on YR for Sunday?

A whole 1.0mm for Blackrock in Dublin.

    Chances of this falling?

YR site is forecasting rain for Sunday for Portlaoise, Kilkenny, Thurles respectively.

I tried and failed to find any info on Shannon's weather station back in the 70s. The only conclusion I can come to is that if it was always located near a car park, then today's temp is quite legit, if not, then as GL says, it is questionable in terms of comparing them to long term averages and records etc.

An area of high cloud is about to make landfall on much of the east coast. Will make things a bit hazier. The area seems to be growing and becoming a bit thicker however when I say thicker, I don't mean overcast....just more hazy at times.

hopefully any rain stays away till next week. For those who have been stuck in work/offices all week in this heat, they deserve a warm, sunny and dry weekend to look forward to.

I'll not begrudge people their share of sunshine and warm weather.

But we badly need some rainfall too.

Yep, you're right. Got confused with him quoting the 1976 figure.

On rewind he said 31.7 and poss 31.8c

It’s difficult to push through 90F with the geography of Ireland. As I mentioned before, I think 850’s need to be at about 20c with 1000-850 partial thickness probably in excess of 141dam at the same time. Winds need the longest land track (or either zero wind). Just my thoughts

I personally question the 1887 record. The uppers shown on historical charts don’t really support 33c. And while the equipment might have been sound, the standards by which the equipment might have been located to avoid influences may not have been fully sound.

Also, how did they calibrate the equipment back then? How can we be sure it was calibrated to a standard equivalent to modern day?

The location of it is known. You question that but not question how on earth they know the upper temps from that date? 33c isn't that hard to believe, it's only 1c higher than today.

Does anybody know why it might be revised? Something to do with thermometer calibration maybe?

    Gerry Murphy just said:
" .... temperatures falling back over the weekend, back into the twenties .."
Seriously! Did you think you would ever hear that in an Irish weather forecast?

    my max today: 25.5c

This morning felt cooler here in kildare but the temperature rose very quick it’s being hovering around 30 here all day without much fluctuations.Still 27 now and tonight the house feels a whole lot warmer than other nights, I can’t cool the rooms at all...it’s feels like all the radiators are on. It’s the first evening I have felt uncomfortable...

Gerry seems to specialise in making exceptional events seem boring lol
I too question the record over 100 years ago and don't think it's validity should go without question

A Max of 29.2c at my station in Waterford City which is a station record for me. Including Met Eireanns station here the warmest day since August 1995 when 28.8c was recorded.
Also a station record Low Humidity value of 19%.
An extremely pleasant breeze adding to the joy.
