University Of Louisville's John Murphy from Kinsale and Charlotte's Conor Purcell of Portmarnock are playing brilliant stuff in the British Amateur Championship in Royal Aberdeen in Scotland. They both qualified for the last 16 of the tournament and are currently ahead in their last 16 round of matches. Tramore's Robin Dawson is also ahead in his last 16 tie so the possibility of 3 Irish lads in the last 8 is really high. I'll keep you posted throughout the evening.

Conor Purcell fired 5 birdies in his last 6 holes to win 3&2 over Adam Blomme of Sweden to qualify for the 1/4 finals. John Murphy and Robin Dawson are 5 up in their matches after 12 and 11 holes respectively so barring an major collapse they too should qualify for the last 8 of the British Amateur!

Robin Dawson wins 6&5 against Elis Svard of Sweden. John Murphy defeats Viktor Hovland of Norway by the same margin. So its Australia's David Micheluzzi versus Conor Purcell and John Murphy against Robin Dawson in the quarter-finals. What a day for Irish Amateur golf!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic to see 2 Irish lads in the semi final . Connor Purcell and Robin Dawson . Play each other in this afternoon's semi final at 1 30 guaranteeing an Irish player in the final. Winner gets into next month's British open and next year's masters and us open. Best of luck to both

Robin Dawson wins 3&2 against Conor Purcell. So its Dawson versus South African golfer Jovan Rebula in tomorrow's 36 hole matchplay final for the right to become British Amateur champion. Best of luck to the Tramore man.

Robin Dawson 1 down after 6 holes against Ernie Els' nephew Jovan Rebula in the 36 hole British Am final.

So heartbreak in the end for Waterford's Robin Dawson as he loses 3&2 to Jovan Rebula in the British Am final. Clearly this has been a long week for both golfers. The second 18 holes was very scrappy so you could argue that fatigue was a huge factor. In fact Dawson won 3 holes in the afternoon, as his opponent made a double bogey on each of those holes. Nevertheless this was an outstanding effort from the Tramore man and next stop for him will be the European Amateur Championship in Holland which starts on Wednesday.
