Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. That's shocking that they would even ask for that information. It shouldn't be legal to factor it into a hiring decision. I don't have a clue what most of my aunts or uncles do for a living & I wouldn't be comfortable asking for private information to submit as part of a job application.

Think its more about placement. You shouldn't be placed in an area which you might have access or influence over a family members incidents.

Edit to add: I don't think asking a DOB or basic job description is massively invasive, unless your aunt works in assassination or something

Any idea what the specifics are? If I get to that point, considering the delays, I want to try and have everything on hand. Family should be fine. Address history for myself I assume? Should I fish out landlord references and the like, or credit statements?

Not sure how in depth it is, but would rather be prepped if they need extensive histories and backing documentation.

Addresses of where you lived and when.
For the family members they want name, address, DOB, Occupation and how your are related to them or your SO. Deceased relations are included in this. Don't forget eircodes/postcodes etc

Thanks for this - is it all former addresses for relations too?

Do you know if its just up to your own & SO grandparents or is it further out than that?

I had to do it a few years ago for my current role and it was children, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles (brothers and sisters of your mother and father, not their partners) any half siblings.

Addresses were all last known address.

FYI - for everyone, AGS confirmed that they do not need any more information than the initial application for the current AGS vetting.

Does anyone know the size of the panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86 ✭✭jano1

Hi AirAmp2019 can you explain what AGS mean when they confirmed that they do not need any more information than the initial application for the current AGS vetting? What about all the questions re family members etc that came after placement on the panel? Has anyone heard anything further re commencement of training?

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

I was on to Garda HR and they didn't have a solid date for commencement of training. They gave me an estimate of 'September or October' which is a pretty wide range tbh. I think they have to wait for more people to get through vetting.

I originally was told July 22nd for start of training, but then was called up to say it would be delayed by a few weeks. No contact since so now wondering if by a few weeks they actually mean a few months haha

Haha I assume 2022 at this stage! It's just getting a bit ridiculous now as my current job must think I'm actually taking the piss at this stage. "I'm starting a new job ...but have no idea when it is actually going to start or how much notice I'll have" isn't much use lol

If they are only running one class you could be waiting a while yet. Person I work with handed in their vetting in the middle of June. If she has to wait 20 weeks it’ll be early November by the time she gets it back and then you’d be looking at end of November/early December for notice period. They’re not going to start a five week training course that stretches over the Christmas break, so you could be looking at January as the earliest start date.

If they run more than one class then it could be any time. Although I’m kinda hoping it’s a while as it’ll give me more time to replace the staff member we’re losing.

Interesting! The suggestion when I was called originally (about a month ago) was that they were doing two sessions. Then again who knows if that has changed in the interim!

Agree. It's a bit bonkers and not a very nice situation to be in at work.

I also applied for this back in June when it opened. Does anyone have the slightest clue as to when a decision is going to be made about numbers/start of training? I have 2 part time jobs where both managers ready for references etc., but am sure they think I'm delusional!! I've never known anything to take as long. My OOM was 6 after interview stage. I have heard nothing since an email from PAS on 11th June. I emailed back thanking for update and asking when things might happen, but heard nothing back. Anyone got any info?

I originally applied for this competition but unfortunately didn't get placed. So the sooner you all begin the training the sooner they might run another competition! (Ya, i know it probably won't be for another 2 years)

Can I ask those who have started vetting, were you given a choice of location or will locations be decided once vetting has finished.

I've heard from a friend working in the guards that there is currently an internal competition at HEO rank for Analysts just after being announced to fill vacancies in Dublin. Could this delay training until they've selected those from the internal competition?

The 12 week vetting mark for the 2.1 panel - assuming everyone got their docs in promptly, is approaching for last week in July. I wonder will that give enough vetted candidates for the first training to go ahead? Or 16 weeks will be end of August.

Do they tell you when they are beginning the vetting process? I gave in all relevant docs when I went for interview back in April. But neither of my named references have had any contact yet.

Vetting for the first batch of interviews ( mostly end of Jan as far as I know ) has already finished I would assume. I'm not sure how long the second batch will take , but I do know that they only contacted my references at the very end of the vetting process ( about week 16) if that's any reassurance!

Was that 16 weeks from your actual interview, or 16 weeks from notification that you were through the interview process? Do you have your date for the course? Sorry for all the questions!! I haven't experienced a process like this before!

16 weeks from the time that PAS told be they were officially beginning the clearance procedures ( which was a few weeks after the interview for myself).

Somewhere about 200 last I heard from them. No new batches being announced yet, but can always hope.

I am guessing they are running two classes then. I wonder if they’ll get both done before Christmas as my colleague is only around 9 or 10 weeks into her vetting and I doubt she’ll be sorted by September.

I'm nearly 16 weeks in...I wonder might they be closer the 12 weeks for the person you know and get a second batch in...too wishful thinking?! Who knows!!

No, through Human Resources section in An Garda Síochána.

Yeah who knows, although I can’t see it being 12 weeks as vetting seems to really slow down during the summer. Personally I hope it comes up as soon as possible for her...professionally after Christmas would be great. Either way it’s been the slowest moving competition I can remember.

Is everyone who has been getting offers Dublin based, or outside Dublin?

Is Special Clearance moving any faster post-summer months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

So mid September and still no sign of anyone starting. Just had a meeting with our HR department who are pushing for my colleague to find out what’s going on so we can make a case to get new staff from the CO panel.

    Anyone heard any update?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 MU1

Heard a batch started this week. Placed in different locations within and outside Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Good to finally see some movement for everyone waiting but that’ll leave them with a very tight time frame to fit in another class this side of Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Anyone here heard any more on this?

Colleague has been trying to get through to both PAS and Garda HR for the last two and a half weeks by email (no reply) and phone (we’ll leave a message for the relevant person) with no luck. At best it looks like nobody has a clue what’s happening, and at worst they are dodging her because there’s no intention to move on to the next batch.

HR not overly impressed as they need to know for definite when she’s going before being granted a replacement.

There's a "known issue" with strand 3 special clearance. PAS have highlighted to AGS who are aware and are "working on it".

No option to move into the general pool to be appointed to other positions, just have to wait for the clearance to go through.

    No mans land.

My colleague has had no problem getting through to PAS but she’s trying to get through to the specific people who sent her the vetting forms to see if they have any information about when or if the next group will start but can’t get them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82 ✭✭08122019

Does anyone know what is going on with this competition?

I have heard nothing since I submitted my vetting 6 months ago. I have been on to PAS who said they would be in touch once they had my paperwork back but that was two months ago and I have tried to get in touch with with AGS where I was told somebody would call me back but I have not heard anything.

I stupidly told my current line manager that I would be going and am now constantly being questioned about when it is going to happen. I am sure most of my colleagues think I have made it up at this stage :D

Has anybody heard about vetting recently? Or has anybody who trained already heard if a new group will be brought in or should I just forget about it at this stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Don’t think you should forget about it completely. I know my department has started to wind down for the year and put off any major projects or taking on new staff members until the new year, the focus now is making sure everything that has to be done by the end of the year is done. Could be the same scenario here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82 ✭✭08122019

Hopefully that is what is happening.

I phoned AGS HR earlier and the person who deals with it is off until later this week. The person I was talking to told me that once they are finished with the vetting in Navan they get sent of to Phoenix Park, so they might not even have them. I was told again that she would call me back but am not expecting a call.

    Hi all,

Just wondering has anyone heard back from AGS at this stage? After my interview I was 12 OOM, so I (foolishly) thought I would be invited for vetting. I have not heard anything since the interview results. I applied for Galway and Westmeath areas. Should I simply forget about it now, after not hearing in almost a year? Thanks.

The last time I heard anything was back in January. I Went for interview this time last year and was top 10 OOM after interview, submitted vetting a few weeks later and had not heard anything until I contacted them. After a lot of chasing and being fobbed off I eventually got hold of the person dealing with it and she told me that training was scheduled for late April/early May because they needed to bring in trainers from the uk. Although when I spoke to her she also let slip that vetting had not been sent off for the final stage.

Obviously with the current situation that’s not happening. I’ve tried to contact both AGS and Public Jobs to try get an update on the competition but have heard nothing back. They’ve been horrible to deal with during this competition which would have me thinking twice about taking it. I’d suggest sending off an email to both AGS and public jobs asking about the status of the competition, maybe if a few people do it they might bother responding.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82 ✭✭08122019

So I just spoke to someone in PAS and they are finished with the competition for now and it is with AGS. The panel will expire in September and there will be no extension due to COVID 19.
If AGS contact them before September they will move on to the next stage.

I think this can be written off given how poor/slow AGS HR are and the fact that they hadn’t even submitted my vetting for the final stage last time I spoke to them, and their talk of needing to bring tutors over from the UK there’s no way a class will be organised in the next 12 weeks. Kind of frustrating given how long and drawn out the process was and all the effort of filling out the vetting paperwork.
