Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The toxic nationalism of Politics.ie

Of course, since the departure of David Cochrane a few years back the site has become a sorry shadow of its former self, but today a claim was made about the incomng Garda Commissioner that could certainly draw legal action if the poster's identity were known. There are occasions here when discussions on the DUP and Brexit can get slightly excitable, but I would suggest most posters here are "small r" republicans, simply motivated by the best interests of the island as a whole, and Anglo-Irish relations, whereas P.ie members are fervid green-eyed nationalists.

There is a marked difference in censorship levels, what opinions you can give, how fervently and how often you are allowed speak on a given topic. This relates to traffic levels.
You only noticed a problem with nationalism?

Boards.ie is just as bad in fairness; there is a fervent socialist/communist slant to the site. Neither site, I hope, reflects the majority of views on this island.

Well the general view on the island would be far more water pump politics than this site obviously; there's also a noticeable higher level of political understanding (as a group; individuals may not meet that criteria) and theory with far higher wish to clearer demarcation from the church policy influencing politics and law. That does not mean that there may be more people who may be on the extreme wing of the politics (and express more extreme views due to the perceived anonymity of the Internetz) represented either but taken as a group I'd argue a better level of understanding.

Well, that's just fine and dandy. Communism, capitalism, feudalism whatever. Life is a biological lottery and I'm at least happy not to be born in the 19th Century as a peasant and not be tortured until death.

I would say there is a RW/Ireland First - anti immigrant slant on boards now for quite a while
