Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I can't find anything definitive on the Lufthansa website about the necessity or otherwise of checking in online. Is it like Ryanair where if you don't check in online and do it at the airport, you get charged more?

I can do online check in before outbound flight from Dublin, but it's always a bit hit and miss whether I can get to an internet cafe with printer to do the online check in for return leg home.

If you have a smartphone or tablet/iPad you don't need to print out anything as check-in code is sent to your email and acts as your boarding card. Open that and it will scan through.

And no Lufthansa or any major European national carrier are not like the budget airlines in regards checking in and are more lenient with carry on luggage. Most airports have check-in machines in arrivals where you can print off your paper boarding card 45 minutes before your flight if that's what you want.

I personally would check in online as soon as that option opens (believe it's 24 hours before a Lufthansa flight). Let's you choose your own seat while turning up at the airport day of means most seats are taken and you might be only left with middle seat.

I've never had that going short haul, not even when going business class I dont think.

that seems to be only available on the Economy Classic (which includes a bag and cancellable for a fee), or above.

For the basic economy (so 20 less per person per leg, so for family of 4 its a €160 difference, which is why I'd not be going for it!) you dont get advance seat bookings.

I think the Economy Classic fare is great value for only €40 with a 23 kg checked bag and seat reservation for a round trip. You'd pay €40 for a 15 kg bag one-way with Aer Lingus.

Yes, its not much more, but you cant choose one fare for one person and then the basic fare for the rest, and I wouldnt need 4x checked bags !

the business class ticket can also be not so much more than economy, and you get 2x 32 kg bags, separate quick checkin and security fasttrack, lounge access, a special wine menu and actual food on board rather than a snack, and on short haul an empty middle seat on 3+3 configuration and I think on your own if its a 2+2 smaller jet.

When I say marginally more, I mean that once Lufthansa is charging about 300 return (and Ryanair and Aer Lingus in the same bracket, if not more, on the same route) there may be business class seats for barely more than economy.
