Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And then they built Bunratty Castle to be near the airport. (well according to one American tourist)

Ah the good old American tourist.
I took a a trip to Scotland a few years back and we went up Ben Nevis. Anyway on the way down we weren't far from home when we came upon a gang of really overweight yanks that were on the way up. One of the young lads was complaining to his father and said he wanted to quit and turn around. The Father's response was "We're Americans, We don't quit. Did we quit when the Germans invaded Pearl Harbour" I was inconsolable. The Laughing took more outta me then the dame walk.

A few weeks back I was in Bunratty getting money from the Pass machine. This american woman was there looking kinda flustered. I thought she was looking to get into the shop and I go 'The door's around the corner'. 'No', she says 'I'm looking for the castle'. 'That's it there' I go, pointing up at it.
'Oh, they have it closer to the road on a map.'
How could you miss a castle and you standing right in front of it.:D

Your right- Shannon airport was on a pure swamp. A lot of locals to here including my fathers were in the building of the runway

Not a swamp but corcas land. Basically a mud plane. The mud goes way down. We've corcas land and when the cattle run in a field, you can feel the vibrations in the ground.

Does that happen a lot on Masseys? Relative has a MF 4235 2WD. We were working together one day and as he drove past me I noticed all the nuts were loose on one of the back wheels. There was a lot of oil leaking there too. Don't know if that was related or not.
Got them tightened up fairly promptly for him anyway.

it can happen to any wheel, ya ever notice the yellow arrows the esb vehicles have on their lugnuts. they point to each other so you know by looking at them if the nuts are slipping

Doubt it's a Massey issue, more a not checking the nuts after fitting wheels issue.

What's the big hole in the wheel centre for?

On most vehicles there is a hub nut at wheel centre, but this is not the case for most tractors, however a lot of tyre mounting/removing equipment in tyre centres grab the wheel rim through it's centre.

What's the big hole in the wheel centre for?

Is it to get at inflation valve on inner wheel when using double wheels?

Actually on a second look, all of the wheel studs on the other side are different colors. I'd guess this lad has had issues with studs before probably caused by improper use of an inch drive impact gun.

Looks like two holes alright. valve is on outside at the top. Don't think you could use those time for dual wheels, there is nowhere for clamps. Unless you put both on the normal studs.

Might be just to help move the wheels during the manufacture of the tractor.

So nobody knows what the holes are for?

I'm assuming it's to get at the valve for pumping as they're kept on the inside to reduce the danger of damage?

i was thinking this too, as these tractors are getting faster and faster, so wheel balancing comes into play more and more.
    Nekarsulm wrote: »

See above post. It would throw out the balance of the wheel.

Out 2 are to relieve stresses on welded rims, inner 6 are to mount clamps for duels/weights, centre hole to assist mount of wheel.

50k tractors by right need welded hubs, and to give a little flex have a hole so as not to metal fatigue so fast.

Was topping a bit on out farm this morning. There was a bit of ragwort in it. Couldn't get over the amount of bees on the ragwort

That tractor in the pcture had 2 holes on the near side and 1 on the wheel that came off. Of you google pictures of MF 6465, they are all like that. Some have 2 holes, some just one. Sometimes the holes are opposite, sometimes near each other.

And the amount of cinnabar moth caterpillars as well. I was pulling ragwort yester prior to topping and brought a load of caterpillars to plants growing on the side of the road. This farming to help wildlife is taking me over I've lost the run of myself completely.

Loads of them here too, I've been encouraging them into neighbors land where owners don't bother trying to control ragwort. They've had a decent impact too!
