What's the cost for a 15 Ton digger, tractor and dump trailer, two drivers per day?
I'm thinking 100 per man, 150 for the tractor, 200 for the track machine?
About a weeks work and ten miles from his base?

350 cash for machine with driver is the cheapest you'll get around here. Don't think you'll get a tractor and dump trailer for that either.

Thanks, a good operator would make it cheaper than self drive/hire.

Des Cahill has a new book out Patsy.

From what I hear about it you'd find that interesting.

Ya, I know his story. Heard him on the radio during the week too.
I was reading that thread thinking my family are very boring, but when I thought about it, maybe not.:D

200-250 for tractor and dump trailer with driver,
35-45 per hour for track machine, so the dear lad could be the best value, unless you have plenty of experience self drive won't be cheaper.

There's skeletons in the closet of every family in this country if you go back far enough.

There's people living beside each other in this country and they haven't the foggiest that they're related to each other. :D

Hard to make out, but if so, back indicator may not have been working. Wonder did he pull in too quick too in the eyes of the law. Looks like he should have went further up main road to stay on his left hand side when entering minor road . Bad luck either way.

I could be wrong but it didn't seem like the car made any attempt to brake. Seems to have picked up a lot of speed for a car that was following a 40-50km/hr tractor. Should the car have made the overtake so near a junction?

The tractor driver didnt seem to have checked his RH mirror before making his move. Was he meeting the lad pulled at the junction? Looks like he had planned to pull in in front of him. Was he distracted by this? I'd never trust indicator alone on a tractor.

correct, you're supposed to look in your mirror before doing any maneuver .......unless of course if you're on the phone

€45/hr for digger + operator, tractor might be a little less, but not a lot. €700+ per day.

Tractor indicator may not have been in the drivers view, if the car was ready to overtake he was looking for a gap to pass ... And not expecting the change of direction. In my opinion .

Totally Cars fault. Indicator on well in advance. I bet the driver was concentrating on the oncoming car as he made his manoeuvre instantly after it passed. Pure tunnel vision I bet. Don't forget tractor indicators are usually higher up than cars so far easier for drivers to not see them, then of course add a little muck or the likes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,023 ✭✭✭selectamatic

The tractor isn't turning onto a road either, Its pulling into a layby and it appears to have began its manoeuvre ever so slightly before the car. However the car enters the oncoming lane just before the tractor.

Its still the cars fault though imo.

Of course the car driver should have been expecting the change of direction if they were reading the road signs. The tractor didn't turn into a field. You are not supposed to pass out coming near a junction because of this. Also a vehicle could have came out of that junction without looking left.

I see some very mixed reports on slurry bugs on the net.

But this is the second batch made up today. The solution is bubbling away beneath the surface.

    Slurry King is this stuff.

This started bubbling away quicker than the first batch. The water was warmer though.
I guess you'd want it the same temperature as if making cheese (34c?)

Dilemma here, my brother is coming home for Christmas but hasn't told our parents yet. He's left it up to me to decide if we leave it as a massive surprise & I just turn up with him or telling them so they're prepared.

I dunno which to do cause we'll definitely have enough room/food etc for him yet i know Mum gets a bit pensive thinking about him being away for Christmas. Yet if I tell them, she'll be panicking about everything being perfect and the house being pristine for him coming home.
Mammies and Daddies of the forum, which would you prefer?

(there's no gift being posted to him, i have checked that in advance)

Personally I would prefer not to know in advance and enjoy the surprise.

Eldest came home from Australia for Christmas 2 years ago and it was a wonderful surprise and totally unexpected. His best friend was the only one who knew he was coming and collected him from the airport.

If rear indicator was not working front one would have been flashing faster. It's a typical regular event where car drivers completely ignor tractor indicators. Also tractor was pulling into a layby not a minor road.
