    But, but, but, road tax!

How come roads in Australia or other hot countries never seem to do this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,971 ✭✭✭_Dara_

Nothing new there. I grew up in a county with crappy roads. That always happened in sweltering weather. We’d stick our fingers in the tar as childers. Grubby little kids, we were. :)

No such thing now, there once was but it was renamed Motor tax.

They’re used to the hot weather and build roads that can withstand the heat, I guess?

    Cause they make proper roads?

Presumably use a different kind of tar better suited for the temperature?

What do you do with a tire like that? Keep driving and hope it comes off at some stage?

Gone back to 1955 for you, was called Motor Tax back then!

They use a useless type of tar here is why. As the roads have melted periodically for decades you would think they might have learned, Dinosaurs! Costs far more trying to fix them than doing them properly in the first place..

Take it off, bring it to the council office and leave it on the county managers desk .. With the invoice for the new tyre.
And if you can roll it in and leave a nice tar track from the front door to the desk even better! :D

You'd need to clean that crap off once it's cooled down. And then check out how the tire is.

I wouldn't be surprised if you lose out on thread, as heat can lead to tire degradation.

Can they not take the roads in during this extreme weather?

There is a such thing as Road Tax, it's only applicable in the fast lane of our motorways though.

Eh bonus tread was a joke like. Tar isn't actually rubber.

Just like your 'h' in thread. Very funny.

There should be a basic standard for road construction and repair. Lobbing a few shovels of tarmac into a water filled hole and rolling with the lorry wheels isn't good enough. I was out drawing silage on Tues and there were slabs of tarmac being lifted by trailer wheels. I think the co councils should have road maintenance removed from their remit. Obviously they can't do their job effectively.

What type of pencil do you draw silage with ?

Tar is no longer used and has not been used on the construction of roads for a very long time. Anytime you see someone advertising "We'll pave your drive way with tar" is speaking absolute bollocks.

Asphalt is the primary material used on the construction of roads

It's not a simple process of simply laying down asphalt. Each stretch of road needs to be tested under various conditions and taking into account the composition of the ground under it.
