I recall a while ago looking up a Roller and it was listed like this -

    Make - Rolls

    Model - Royce

Motor tax website has it listed correctly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,472 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Yeah, it’s weird, Motorcheck says “ Rolls Royce Phantom Phantom V111 4DR Auto, 2021”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,278 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I wonder was the Lancer Evo description just a copy and paste form template?

I still wouldn't buy it even after winning the Euro millions!

LOL! How much do you have to hate your job of typing car manufacturers names to do something like that. My favorite is the wife's Giulietta:

    Make Alfa Romeo

    Model: Other

Some gombeen just couldn't get their head into the spelling.

My mates ancient Breaking Bad-style Ducato camper was listed as an Alfa Romeo/Fiat Other

Complete restoration was carried out in 2007 all parts were sourced from VW Germany

    ...

The project in 2007 cost in excess of 20000 euro the car has been dry stored since then

    Celtic Tiger Ireland was mental

People had more money than sense. Looks like it's on stilts too. I know that is stock but still doesn't look good in 2021.

I like that Jetta, looks to still be in really good order even after 14 years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,336 ✭✭✭✭elperello

That's one of the more unusual offerings we have seen.

Looks lovely, intriguing story to it I'd say.

Could have had a nice apartment in Bulgaria for that money back in 07 instead!

At least the Jetta is now worth more than the apartment! lol!

All joking aside, why keep a car in storage for 14 years, and then sell it a year shy of classic status?

Am I right in thinking that’s not even a turbo diesel?

I could maybe understand vanning a petrol one, those diesel ones are only 110g/km so €190 tax as a car.
Was it a BIK dodge I wonder?

Even though its taxed as a commercial it still has windows in the back so its still considered a car for BIK purposes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

So what you're saying is the tax went up after the conversion. Left the back windows normal. Maybe the person needed a small van but would prefer if it looked like a car.

I'd say you are right, it was done to suit the requirements of a particular individual.

    Could be a hard resale.

A lot of people do a conversion like that and chance their arm on the 5% commercial BIK, so I’d say Colm could be right. I was just pointing out that with the windows still there it technically doesn’t qualify for the low BIK. Maybe it was just a personal requirement

That's pure blackgaurding by revenue. They were forced to concede the windows to comply with EU commercial norms: keeping the rule for BIK is f**king petulance.

Every van conversion I’ve seen the windows get panelled out and disconnected, they get the low BIK. That was surely the same but they driver took the panels back out for the cool factor.

Its a wonder they never just went for a nicely spec'd Golf van.

You can convert absolutely anything to a van. (Within reason. Ie any jeep, estate, hatch)

There as a Golf R32 going around as a van before.
