Yes the petrol is 220, presume these TDIs would be 233HP but surely it's torque of 450 to 500nm would impress.

I’d love to have a go in one. It’s hard to guess how good or bad it would pull given the weight of the thing. I’m not a VW fan at all but I think they’re a classy car. Already paying 1500 a year tax!

Your the one getting mixed up the petrol V6 is more powerful than the diesel V6. 220 is the diesel.

I'm actually getting mixed up also, there is two V6 TDi models. The older one is 220 while the 2008-2013 model is 240.

    Yes,earlier one was 225 and then 2007 was the 233 3.0l TDI - uprated to 240 in 2008.
I was getting mixed up myself as I always thought they had the same engine as the Audi A8.

It’s still ugh considering how much it weights. I mean, why not buy a Passat with cup holders. What’s the difference??

Oof. For the tax and the price of the car you’d be better off with a 530/330d. I’ve never driven a phaeton but I’d say the 3.0d is sluggish. Maybe the performance of a 150bhp Passat.

Stepping out of a phaeton into a 5 series would be like stepping out of a 5 series into a golf.

Great car, always maintained, no major dents...

Looking at the panel gaps front and rear, it must have been an accordion in its previous life then.

That's lovely. Couldn't afford something like that at the moment personally but I dont think it's bad value at that price? I couldn't picture it ever losing money from there.

Only watching that Top Gear last night where Matt and the other lad went to Japan to buy sports cars. Serious drool at the stuff parked in the auction lot then the RX 7 with the BBS wheels was just pure porn! I remember a girl here year's ago had a lovely one...

Hnnnnnnngh. This is just a tad over 4000 euros. Right spec, right engine, little rust, left hooker. Anyone any experience importing from Canada? I want to own one but I'm not willing to pay Irish prices.

Total guess but I'd say it would cost 5 grand if not more to bring that over. Import tax, shipping fees and what ever else you have to pay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,279 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I'd say you will be paying close to Irish prices in import duty, shipping and VAT by the time you would have that landed here. Personally I just don't see the appeal of them.

Edmonton Alberta wouldn't be the worst rust zone in Canada but it'd be close enough to cause concern especially for an ae86.

Transport costs are going to be pretty steep from a place like Edmonton too because it's nowhere near the east coast. Then you've the added LHD problem.

Australia/NZ are the only places to look really in the hope of finding a cheap one.

God no! I thought that before I moved to NZ but the prices there are even worse than here for 86's. You can pick up cheap KP Starlets and KE Corollas but not cheap 86's.

Ya I suppose cheap would be a bit of stretch. Decent prices in terms of condition and lack of rust might be a better way of putting it. Even the track spec ones tend to be basically rust free.

I bought mine off my brother when you'd get one for 5 or 6k. It's full of rattles, the most uncomfortable, rusty and noisy yoke but I do enjoy driving it,abusing it might be a better word. Deserves to be restore but that will probably never happen

They're very very rare over there. Literally saw one when I was living there, a single cam 1.5. Eww.

86's go for somewhere between 25k-35k NZD.

I watched a YouTuber's video about importing a cheap one from Japan a couple of years ago. He was from the Netherlands if I remember correctly.

    Edit: Decided to link video.
