Looks like he found it at the bottom of a river. You would think hard of giving €300 never mind €3000.

There’s no cure for that yoke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,278 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I don't think Covid-19 would survive long in that interior.

I do like that someone fitted a towbar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,278 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

They needed something to tie the rope onto to pull it out of the river.

It would be a class yoke restored though.

Incidentally he’s the same guy selling the 00 Camry that was discussed recently.

    Agreed. That’s worthless.

Silly price. From a certain angle the side very much reminds me of a Peugeot 605.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,278 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Yeah I was thinking it was a 406 from the side profile.

BTW what's with the current trend of sellers not putting any photos of interiors in their adverts? Seems to be rife on donedeal lately.

Absolutely! It's like someone from Toyota went to France on his holidays and saw a Peugeot 405/605 but forgot his camera and had to describe it to their designer!

    Like the chinese X5 knockoffs.

I mean it’s cool but... would 2k not be enough for something like that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Nah, you'd barely buy a good condition 20v blacktop engine and gearbox on a pallet for €2k these days.

That said I dont think the car ads a lot of value to it, but it is a cool, clean, 90's jap Toyota.

I think €3500-€4k would be realistic. €8250 is crazy.

Christ! The amount of levins I passed up on for peanuts in the past with that engine.

    Because of AE86 conversions yeah?

Levin's/Trueno's go for 3500-5000 these days. I personally think the coupes are nicer but that carina is rarer.

Pretty cool car but I'd prefer if it was the Carina E model

I have a car which I've driven for the last year or so and wanted to get something a little better.

    I spotted this

They have offered a figure for my trade in pretty much in line with what I paid for it last year, so that's a plus. The mileage seems quite low, which is another plus. No paddle shift gears which to me is a minus.

I know little of this model Beamer and would be obliged for any input or advice.

    Thanks in anticipation.

That's an odd one. It appears to be an M sport but not on it's original wheels. They came on a 19in wheel which was prone to cracking. Steering wheel has been retrimmed also to look like an M performance one.

That should have the N47 engine which is the one known for the timing chain stretching on it, I’d be checking if it has had one done, or at least budget for it to be done in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,278 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

That's not the original steering wheel at all, BMW didn't do a flat bottomed steering wheel on those. I'd be making sure the airbag and airbag light are still functioning correctly and not just coded out if the steering wheel was replaced. As said the wheels are not original M Sport either, they look to be off a SE version.

Here is a 325d with no timing chain worries for not much more though you would probably have to sell your own car first:

To address the concerns others have raised, that is most likely the original steering wheel retrimmed with added flat bottom. I have seen many owners on the forums bring their steering wheels to get retrimmed and flat bottomed as the one in this car.

Those wheels are e90 wheels but they are not the original wheels to that car. Should be 19" MV4s or style 313s.

I had a 320d nearly exactly like this, I retrofitted paddle shifts to the car. It is actually really easy but will probably cost you about 300-350 easy (need to find original steering wheel with paddles and buy a wiring harness).

Bring it to a BMW specialist or dealer to get a proper check done. Timing chain is a must on these cars, also make sure to check out the cooling system and turbo. I personally would be looking for full service history on one of these, as proper servicing can minimise the risk of timing chain failure.

If you can stretch (running cost wise), I would tend to agree with Bazz and say a 325d or 330d would be a much more enjoyable buy, but they are still prone to timing chain issues. The 325d LCI (N57) shared engine components with he N47 in the 320d you linked.

Edit: thought id add, I now have a 325i (3.0l petrol) coupe and it was actually cheaper to insure than the 320d (previous car) so would highly recommend checking out a 325i or 330i though they are hard to find!. Tax on the 325i is only 570 per year so wont break the bank either

If it's a 3 series coupe you want you're looking at the wrong engine.

    True on both counts
The JDM equivalent of the Carina E is the Corona
I know because I have one in storage (I was vb's , of these parts, his old one)
