Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Regarding the roof. Surely it is only used for conditions? If conditions are fine the match must be open roof, regardless of what it was previously?

No, the match must finish in the same conditions it started in, unless both players agree to change. Djokovic would be crazy to open it.

Maybe its a rule they need to look at while reviewing the final set tiebreak rule...

If the match started in sunshine with the roof open and then rain arrived in the middle of it would they close the roof or delay the match ? Then closing it would mean finishing the match in different conditions than they started ?

Yes, it was closed for the conditions. You don't then change the conditions in the middle of a match.

If it had started at 1pm, closed for rain at 3pm, they wouldn't then open it at 4pm because the rain had stopped if the same match was still going on.

    Perfectly logical. Perfectly fair.

If it’s the rule so be it. Just seems wrong. I can’t recall a similar situation where it was implemented..

Key word being started? So, if it started roof closed, must finish roof closed? If started roof open must finish roof open? Is it a new rule?

    Unless players agree..

Really hoping Nadal can pull it out of the bag. He’s my favourite player of all time.

I’ve seen him play at Wimbledon & the Australian Open.

Actual resumption of the fourth set probably be around 1.15, anointing for walkout, warmup etc?

Regarding the roof, Wimbledon set the restrictions so that everyone would know where they stood in advance in a consistent manner, and avoid a case-by-case scenario where a player could claim there was favouritism towards his opponent. The restriction is that once the roof is closed, it will remain closed for the remaining duration of the match, they won't keep opening and closing it. Of course, the restrictions were created with the idea that the roof would only be closed due to weather conditions, it was never intended to be used to extend playing times, that was just an occasional happy side effect, so the restrictions were never edited to reflect a scenario where that's why it was closed.

I'm not sure if it can be opened now even if both players agree, and it's such a rare occurrence that I don't think they'll change the restrictions for future years. Although with Court 1 also getting a roof now, maybe they will take the opportunity to fine tune things. But their planning permission for both roofs stipulated that they would not use the lights to deliberately extend play, just occasionally to complete play (i.e. no extra matches being scheduled normally, just really long matches causing its usage).

Seems to have picked up right where it left off with some fantastic rallies.

Ha, here's me thinking "That watch Nadal is wearing looks nice, might get one..."

Only to Google it and see its $725,000.

Might pass. Bit too flashy for me.

Nadal very, very aggressive at the start here and immediately paying dividends. Wonder if djokovic was still thinking about the chances he missed in the first game as he gave that one up very easily.

That and the one before it.

Djokovic didn't really do anything with a short ball in the middle of the court. Very tentative altogether.

Nadal looks like he's taking a breather in this 4th game.

Jesus Christ he looked to be motoring and then gave Djokovic two games in no time at all. Would edge Djokovic agradezco as favourite for the set now.

    Nole now 3/1 on..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,535 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

    Very, very strange set altogether.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,535 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Very nervy from both of them, some tentative and poor play, especially around the net. Some great stuff too obviously but 8 think the quality dipped the longer it went on as the nerves kicked in. Giving up that break and then not taking three break back points would finish many lesser players so will be interesting to see how Djokovic handles it.

Not sure any neutrals wouldn't have wanted it to go five!

He played about 3 strokes before that that would have ended the really against anyone but Djokovic tío.

Nadal almost threw that away with two badly missed forehands he should have made and then won it with two brilliant ones!

Seems.to be annoyed at himself having blown a few chances at getting to match point.

These two lads don’t receive the same adulation and reverence as Fed, but on their day they wipe the floor with every player in history not named Federer.

No one complaining for a tie-break decider this time!

Ballsy hold from Djokovic. Will take a serious effort from Nadal after the chances he had and pressure djokovic was under.
